Season 8 was the last good season of The Simpsons.

Goddammnit, Brap. Through a careful series of mental exercises, I'd only just finally managed to get RID of that.

Thanks a LOT.

The Simpsons has only generated billions from its TV run and merchandising...so, not throwing this lady $25,000 is completely understandable.

Guest stars is what caused the Simpsons to jump the shark. Specifically, the show began to suck after Homerpalooza and guest stars become the norm - and all too often, the plot centerpiece.

I think one of the big problems was having guest stars on the show that the writers and fans despised, but were popular. Like Kid Rock and Britney Spears. Or the dreaded athlete cameo, which outside of "Homer at the Bat," were always terrible.

I agree about nine, overall a really good season still especially with "Trash of the Titans" but "The Principal and the Pauper" is the first truly awful Simpsons episode in my opinion. Skinner really isn't Skinner? come on.

I think it was when they started showing up as themselves, usually announced by a major character with "Hey, everybody, it's Serena and Venus Williams!"

Really? I like that episode. Especially, I love this exchange:

Armin: Good evening, Edna. I know we were planning to see a film tonight, but instead I'm leaving town forever.
Edna: No, please, I don't care what you've done. You're still a decent, honorable man.
Armin: Mmm...that's the kind of talk that makes me want to marry you.
Edna: Oh!
Armin: But instead, I'm leaving town forever. Goodbye.

I actually enjoy that episode on a non-continuity level, seeing as how Skinner and Chalmers are two of my favorite characters and I love their interaction with one another. Still, yes the plot is ludacris. I think Matt Groening admitted that it's his least favorite episode evar.

/Loves me some Trash of the Titans. Steve Martin is genius in that episode. "If I hadn't already packed my letter opener I would give you such a stabbing."
//And The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson is probably my favorite episode ever

I appreciate that one for the absurdity. They knew they were doing a cliche, but they played the hell out of it.

Judge: And I further decree that everything will be just like it was before all this happened! And no one will ever mention it again... under penalty of torture. [The townspeople cheer.]
