And she looked fanf*ckingtastic.

Actually, Community is the best new comedy, but Modern Family is still very good.

I watch it because Al Bundy's (no idea what his real name is) wife is stupid hot...

This. A thousand times this.

That was a very good episode. Al Bundy's wife is hot, Happy Gilmore's girlfriend is hot, the neighbor up the street is hot and Elizabeth Banks looked ridiculous hot last night.

And the Spandau Ballet shiat was gold.

Best new comedy in years. Love the shiat out of this show.

Fat gay and skinny gay are unconvincing. Elizabeth Banks makes the world a better place. If she was in it then it's the best show on TV.

She makes Donnie's pants tight.

Just started watching this show, and it's great.

It's 'Arrested Development' but they've dialed down the 'Cerebral' setting, and compensated by upping the 'Eye Candy' setting.

So...yeah. Good times.

I refuse to think that there is anything worth watching on ABC.

Except for those few months when there's a NASCAR race on Sunday, right? Unless you're one of those "I'll listen to it on MRN or Sirius" folks?

Ed Norton did a cameo on the short lived but hysterical show Stella.

Guest stars is what caused the Simpsons to jump the shark. Specifically, the show began to suck after Homerpalooza and guest stars become the norm - and all too often, the plot centerpiece.

The fat gay is pretty much the doppelganger of a gay guy I used to work with. Same style, body shape, and mannerisms. I find him very convincing (and hilarious) for that reason.

Modern Family is ok, but it is a lot like most other shows where all the characters on it are wealthy, have beautiful homes, are pretty (well mostly), and don't really work.

That's why shows like The Office, Always Sunny, and Parks & Recreation are so much better - the characters are more real.

Cat in the wall, huh? I've seen this before. What we need is another cat.

I really like this show. I'm just happy to see Ed O'Neil on a regular basis again. I love that guy. Plus ed's son on the show is awesome.

You thinking of a 3rd cat?

I'm thinking of a 4th.

That is an interesting point - and you're completely right, they all have enormous houses, multiple cars, etc.

I actually look at that as an asset - not because it helps me relate or anything (though yes, I'm fabulously wealthy) - but because it removes one source of possible concern for the characters.

Plenty of shows have episodes where the characters get into financial trouble - and I generally find those to be the least enjoyable ones. If farks with the escapism and relaxation. I have to worry about money all the time, so I don't personally care to relive that through my tv.

I took the wealth of the characters to mean that, essentially, the writers had dictated that this was not a show where we see characters confronting 'Real' issues - and I'm really quite fine with that.

/perfectly happy confronting issues like having a hot neighbor trying to seduce you.

I think Community is better, but not by much. I don't like the main guy very much, but I don't think you're supposed to.

Modern Family has had some great moments. I've been hooked since they scheduled the paintball punishment in the series premiere.

krazydiamond [TotalFark] 2009-11-19 03:54:50 PM
I am loving this show. It's tied with community in my books. Modern Family had been pulling ahead, but the bits at the end of Community, with Abed and the black dude (don't remember his name) are killing me. More of them, less of Jeff and Brita (not a big fan of either of those two).

zunkus 2009-11-19 03:59:22 PM
I watched "Modern Family" for the first time last night. Other than Elizabeth Banks and Al Bundy I wasn't all that impressed. I mean it was ok but I didn't get any of those LOL moments.

Gnaglor 2009-11-19 04:18:20 PM
Married With Children was the who's who of guest actors and Michael, Michael, and David's 'Stella' already had Norton as a guest years ago. Old news.

jackiepaper [TotalFark] 2009-11-19 04:29:51 PM
Community is ok, but I have a hard time buying Joel McHale as an actor, rather than just some snarky guy who comments on stupid TV shows.

RockIsDead 2009-11-19 04:51:24 PM
The Edward Norton bit was kind of stupid.

And the crazy f*g-hag character was a throwback to prior gay stereotype crap on TV.

Not their best episode.

Hope it's not a shark jump already.

TrainingWheelsNeeded 2009-11-19 05:16:57 PM
last night's episode was average - had some good moments, two really...if you know what I mean

TheQuest35 2009-11-19 05:40:50 PM
the charicters and writing are good. But man every episode... I keep expecting it to turn into king of queens or somthing else typical.

I like community more, but I think Modern Family doesnt require that you like Joel McHale

We can discuss the importance of body mass.

Probably meant to go with "Same Old Shiat"

sorry. Same Old shiat. Maybe I needed to give it more time, but it did seem like it was doing the old 'shovel as many one liners as my coke addled brain can write' formula. It just wasn't funny. *shrug*

Oh, and I'll see your Edward Norton and raise you a Sandra Day O'Conner as a judge on Married With Children. Just seeing her sitting on the bench as the Bundy's scammed their way through a lawsuit was enough to crack me up, they didn't even have to give her anything to say.
