Jeezus that was fun.

Starts with Omar, ends with Omar and a montage of "Shiiiiiiiiat" from Clay Davis at the 8:40 mark. Pretty fair complilation.

The problem with that quote, and some that are in the video itself, is that the larger context is needed. The entire scene is almost necessary.

In the same vein, I wish "You must have me mistaken for someone who asks twice" was in there.

Great video. I actually can't believe they missed this one:

McNulty: You know why I respect you so much, Bunk?
Bunk Moreland: Mm-mmm.
McNulty: It's not 'cause you're good police, 'cause, y'know, fark that, right?
Bunk Moreland: Mm. fark that, yeah.
McNulty: It's not 'cause when I came to homicide, you taught me all kinds of cool shiat about . . . well, whatever.
Bunk Moreland: Mm. Whatever.
McNulty: It's 'cause when it came time for you to fark me . . . you were very gentle.
Bunk Moreland: You damn right.
McNulty: See, 'cause you could have hauled me out of the garage and just bent me over the hood of a radio car, and . . . no, you were, you were very gentle.
Bunk Moreland: I knew it was your first time. I wanted to make that shiat special.
McNulty: It was, man. It farking was.

Really? You forgot education? Season 4 was the best season of television of all time, IMHO.

In general, the show is about institutions, and how those institutions change people and lead them down certain tracks, whether they wanted to or not.

The Mayor came in legitimately wanting to improve Baltimore, but ended up cooking the crime books nonetheless. The kids wanted more from their lives than working corners and lives of crime, but that's where they ended up nonetheless. I once read something from David Simon where he stressed the importance of the railroad lines that Bunk and McNulty were always hanging out.

From that, I inferred that the overarching message of "The Wire" is that the real tragedy of corrupt American cities is that they "railroad" people into certain paths, whether they want that or not.

/Also, the show is about drugs.

Prosecutor: Mr. Little, how does a man rob drug dealers for eight or nine years and live to tell about it?
Omar: Day at a time I suppose?

As much as I liked Omar, I got so I really admired Smooth Lester Freamon -

Freamon: What did he call Cole?
Bunk: Collateral damage.
Freamon: I'm feelin' pretty damn collateral myself, I gotta say.

Really?
Wow.
Now I have to see it.
There was a H:LotS where a guy fell on to the subway tracks and had his entire lower half twisted in a 180 and the way every one dealt with it made for gripping TV.

Based on a true story, too.

This probably should have been the very last scene of the entire series, because somehow it seems to just wrap everything up perfectly:

Yup. That episode won an Emmy for Andre Braugher.

The writer of that ep saw an episode of "Taxicab Confessions" where someone (either an off duty cop or firefighter) gets asked by the driver what their worst call was. The reply was a guy who'd fallen in between a subway car and platform who lived a short time.

The actor who played the victim in "Homicide" was Vincent D'Onofrio (Pvt. Pyle in Full Metal Jacket) who later played Det. Goren in "Law & Order: Criminal Intent".
