As a fish fan, I know I've got little to stand on regarding this year's playoffs (esp with Brown done)...but I do enjoy seeing the Jets' and their fans' delusions of grandeur come crashing to earth like clockwork about this time almost every year.

It's like a Thanksgiving treat.

I can see a player tearing up after a tough loss where he left everything on the field but not a coach.

I call manipulation.

My thought, too.

In retrospect, maybe it wasn't the best idea for the Jets to declare that Week Two of the regular season was like their Super Bowl.

On the other hand, Week Two will probably compose 75% of the Jets 2009 highlight DVD.

(Feel free to copy and paste this next year.)

It's the only thing going for a Dolphins fan this week. I can't think of anything better than Tearysausage Rex crying like a biatch prior to the inevitable obliteration the Jets will face at the hands of the Patriots after spending the first half of the season talking shiat on the rest of the league. I'm gonna pull a Peter King and not bother to look shiat up, but I wonder what the stats are for the Pats winning when

a) facing a division rival that beat them earlier in the season and
3) the Patriots are on a one game losing streak

I'm sure the Patriots are undefeated this decade in that situation.

/hate the Patriots, hate the Jets more

Wait, the season is still going on?

I thought the Jets won the Super Bowl back on Sept 20th and Sanchez was inducted into the Hall of Fame...

I actually called in to ESPN to talk to them on the radio about this. I'm a Bengals fan (since 2001) who happens to live about 5 minutes outside NYC. I'll make the same points here that I made to them.

1) Rex was delusional at the beginning of the season if he thought that his team had play off potential. For all the shiat he talked, never did the Jets really play up to it.

2) To get to the play offs they have to go 9-7 at a minimum. Assuming they beat Buffalo and Tampa Bay that leaves them needing 3 of 5 against New England, Indianapolis, Carolina, Atlanta and Cincinatti. Anyone that wants to claim the Jets can make it needs to tell me which 3 of those teams they're going to beat.

I also enjoy it- thoroughly- but have to admit a secret admiration for Jets fans and their ne'er ending delusional optimism, but maybe that just my first 30+ years as a Red Sox fan feeling empathetic.

/i accidentally typed 'emopathetic', at first, which doesn't work here, but seems to me to be a great word I can use later in a "kids today" thread
