And why not? Cable was probably going to get fired "for cause" anyway. It's not like Davis can do anything worse to him.

Actually, that's not true. Cable's real punishment would be to continue coaching the team. They deserve each other.

Russell set the bar pretty damned low. He might be better skill-wise, but he let things like work ethic, decision-making and his belly get in the way.

That's beside the point. The other 30 teams all have quarterbacks who can throw the ball within 20 yards of its intended target. Letting the 21st century version of Ryan Leaf beat you in a two minute drill is indefensible.

Why would I need to pick a different insult? The Chiefs let JaMarcus freaking Russell march down the field in their own house and beat them. End of story!

Disagree. By all accounts Stafford has a good head on his shoulders, which I think counts for more than raw physical ability. He's not going to be the next Peyton, granted, but he'll be a serviceable QB for a while. Perhaps because he's not as physically gifted as someone like Russel, he knows that he has to work hard and be a leader to make up for it.

He looks bad now because he and Calvin Johnson have more than half the talent on the team between them, and they're both playing on bum knees.

True. The Chiefs ended Leaf's career. False. Leaf played in the last 4 years.

The D that destroyed Leaf would have killed Russel. Sadly, nobody has seen hide nor tail from that D in about 10 years.

Why dont they sign a vet and try to salvage a bit of this season. Contrary to popular belief, more players than just the QB need experience. Get a vet QB in there, and play out the season, while developing that rushing attack and the younger receivers. DO SOMETHING POSITIVE!

Wrong. Ryan Leaf had played well up until the Chiefs game. Going into that game, he made a comment about how Arrowhead was overrated and didn't compare to college stadiums. The fans taught him otherwise. He was absolutely destroyed by the Chiefs D, he had something like 1-15 for 15 yards in the first half before being pulled. It completely shattered his confidence and led to the lockerroom blow-up at the San Diego reporter.

Leaf is our kill.

Me thinks they should forget about QB for now and work on the OLine a bit and also plug up the porous run D.

Make a deal for someone serviceable playing backup somewhere. Kitna comes to mind.

You thinking David Carr serviceable or Joey Harrington serviceable? ;-) That's what I see in his future...a solid #2-3 on some team...Harrington is out of the league now and I think Carr is still backing up Manning's backup or something.

Can't say I disagree. Russell Okung looks like a great prospect and the Raiders might be in a position to take him (they'll need to be in the 3-5 range, I think). Charles Brown of USC may yet pull off a Jason Smith-like climb on draft boards as well. (Just say no to Trent Williams, according to a recent piece by KC Joyner.)

That wasn't his first blow-up; it was just the most heavily-publicized. He had already built a reputation for being a whiny hot-head.

You may have got the killshot, but it was the coup de grace on a guy who was already standing on the edge of the grave with both feet on Crisco-slathered banana peels.

Leaf and Russel are two perfect examples of why draft projections suck. They weight senior stats far too heavily, look too much at the guy's raw abilities (not game abilities) and build, and fail to short prima donnas (Leaf), morons (Russel, Vince Young) and other head cases (Kyle Boller, too ADD or mentally rushed to be a top-echelon QB).

I'll revise what I said in a thread the other day - as a GM, I'd trade down from a top-15 spot every time. You save tons of cash and have about an equal shot at success.

I'm just glad they waited until after the Chiefs' rematch to bench him. The Chiefs could have been 0-6 in the division if it happened a few weeks ago.
