I think Quintin Laing has proven to be a player any team would be lucky to have.

That's sick. Definitly going to more caps games this year than redskins.

Also, headline fails to mention Brads bloody fight and goal that night.

Last night's game was great, Ovie scoring from the blue line on his first shot since getting hurt, Gaborik netting two , Lundquist and Varlamov making great saves, and a bloody haymaker filled fight.

It was hockey at it's best.

I like hockey, but face it, alot of idiots are raised by DOn Cherry, (the hockey analyst not the jazz trumpeter). This guy found gold from people listening to the words that come from his ass. Always talking about how tough players need to be, how they must sacrifice thier bodies, play to the point of intending to injure others, and putting yourself in danger just for the sake of keeping a puck from geting in the net.

Its wacked, someone is going to die someday because of this all important myth that winning the Stanley cup matters more than your safety.

Don CHerry you made your money, you got what you wanted so retire or DIAF.

No doubt. I just upgraded from a 27" Standard Def CRT to a 46" Samsung LED flatscreen, and the Dish Network guy installed my HD box yesterday afternoon. That game was my first experience watching hockey in HD, and it was glorious.

/Still pissed that Gaborik is not in Minnesota anymore

I didn't see the face-shot in the video recap. Did he lay out knowing his face would get smacked, or did he just lay out like a dozen other players did last night?

He just laid out, the taking it in the face part was unlucky. I was more impressed by Bradley getting some stitches to the head after the fight then coming back to score the game winner on a breakaway.

We may not be the fastest or the strongest, but there should never be any doubt about who possesses the 'indominable will to win'.

And with that, I'm sorry to say that while you were out of the country, your citizenship has been revoked.

Your passport will be returned to you if you respond to someone blocking the passageway in a Korean market with a slew foot or a blind hit from behind.

You can also reclaim your citizenship with a live on air kiss with Dougie Gilmour. It's actually amongst the most common ways of becoming a Canadian now.

um, yeah. Though I doubt the player actually "purposely" stopped the puck with his face, the idea that that would be tagged "Cool" rather than "Stupid" or even "Sad" is why hockey is dominated by meatheads.

I say this, however, only having known high school & college hockey players. Maybe it's different in the pros.

It's the difference between a guy who has the passion to do whatever it takes to be able to play the game he loves, and a guy who quits playing in high school because it gets too hard.

Check out old Coach's Corner! Don Cherry over-and-over tells players blocking shots to turn their head towards the ice to not take a shot in the face, letting them know that shot blocking is dangerous, and requires a lot of skill to be done safely.

I don't really agree with you (although, having been captain of my law school hockey squad I broke two ribs and never missed a shift, even though we sucked), but actually Don is on your side here.

I think there's a difference between playing hard and intentionally taking a 100 or so mph puck to the goddamn face. That's the point where "playing hard" and "having passion" becomes "being an absolute moran" and, if you're a good player, "hurting the team by sidelining yourself for two months due to a broken jaw for the sole purpose of stopping a single goal."

The Washington Ovechkins look great until the 2nd round of the playoffs.

You know you're a great team when your "pick-me-up" is one player getting his ass kicked, and another diving in front of a puck and consequently having to sit out for weeks with a broken jaw.

DenisBergkamp 2009-11-18 09:44:35 PM
Playing through an injury is a bit of a health risk but does show the strength of determination that a player may have. Kudos for players like that, and in general, shot blockers. Guys that work hard like Laing are great for the team but we shouldn't be wanking off to the fact that he botched a shot block and took it to the face.

I mean, the effort was there and it's admirable but... well...he took a slapshot to the face. That's called doing it wrong, ye know? No matter what team you support.

I agree, but the reason Laing is a fan favorite is because he would come back and do the exact same thing again. Not that we want him to, but he would do it, if it meant one fewer goal against.

He became a fan favorite because of the way he selflessly blocked shots on the Caps improbable run to the playoffs two years ago. And he kept at it, even after spending last year in the minors because the team knew he would never clear re-entry waivers.

Oh man, the Caps have the best player in the world, that sucks!

Or, is it supposed to be a funny clip at them being a 1-man team?

You probably don't have any data to go with that but I do. The Caps top 3 players only account for about 40% of the team goals.

The have 12 players that have scored multiple goals and 18 players that have scored (tied for 3rd in the league)

The most impressive part about all of that balanced scoring is that they are doing it at a higher rate than any other team in the league at almost 4 goals a game (3.67) with 77 total goals already (also 1st in the league.) 15 of those goals belong to Ovechkin.
