I don't know whether I'm more stunned to learn that JC Penny still has its Big Book catalogue or that they're even still around at all.

Well, I knew they were still around, they are an anchor at one of our malls in town.

But, I agree, I thought Sears, Penney's, etc, all got rid of their telephone book sized catalogs like a decade ago.

I wonder what percentage of american males used that as their first fap material.

Before the internet porn became viable? All of them.

Kinda sad. I remember getting the Christmas Sears and JCPenny catalogs because we lived in a small town. So most of my toys came from those books. It was a book of childhood dreams.

I can still recall the smell of a fresh Penney's winter catalog. So many bright, beautiful pages of toys to drool over.

Now there's a page that brings back memories.

Holy crap... I had most of those toys. (except 13, 16,17,20,) They even shot real projectiles that kids could choke on.

A friend of mine was a child model, a handsome young lad, who landed the coveted JCPenney ventriloquist doll model gig.

I was a hick from the sticks who couldn't have gotten a modeling job at gunpoint - but I always wanted to be in show business. It's weird knowing that I used to look at his picture every year and think "that dude is completely living the dream, I bet he even sits in the front row at Friar's Club roasts."

Hey in the 70's the underwear sections of catalogs is all we had to fap to....unless we found our father's porn stash.

Sad to hear. When I was a kid I remember getting three or four different catalogs about this time of year - Sears, JC Penney's, and Brendles are the ones that come to mind.

Good times. I don't know how children today will get a comparable experience.

Sears wishbook.. I miss you.

My mom unearthed a bunch of old catalogs from the mid-80s (I'm born in '84) and they quality of them is off the charts.

For the Farkettes there was the '70s Sear catalogue and the male under wear Man on page what ever.

Google is your friend. Nap time in the geriatric center now.

Which I did, plus what I thought was a hand-held massager. It didn't feel good when I tried to massage my neck. **shudder**

Many catalogs were way better in the 70s back before photoshop.

I honestly thought they had gotten rid of that catalogue years ago. Maybe they did but then brought it back, or announced they were doing so but didn't because so many old people yelled.

This. When I was young, I always anticipated the JC Penney Christmas catalogue. Fun times, fun times.

Actually JC Penney is doing quite well for itself compared to Sears right now with Wal-Mart and Kohls in the mix. If it followed Wards, it would already be out of business.

Lawnchair 2009-11-18 06:55:19 PM
Still have a soft spot. They were *the* above K-mart general clothing place in my small town. Not a huge selection (smaller town version), but you got anything from the catalog delivered to the store, without shipping. They called you when it was in, and then you could try it on and decide whether to actually buy it or not. So civilized, really.

Any Pie Left 2009-11-18 07:06:30 PM
Lawnchair is right and we still have one here because of that.
Shop online, pickup /try-on/exchange at the store. It works, but yeah, the place always looks like it is about to close up.

My friend and I (both GI Joe fanatics) were always pissed because we KNEW we could do a much better job posing GI Joes for those catalogs. Of course, ours would have involved a little more fake blood, but...
