(SlashFilm) Cool JJ Abrams talks about the sequel to Star Trek, and teases a possible actor for the role of Khan. Let's just say that he's perfectly suited to play a guy who is really old but seems oddly young   (slashfilm.com) divider line 288

This. I don't want Khan, but if it's insisted upon, I can think of worse actors.

It sounds to me like Khan as a villain was floated by the interviewer, and not the interviewee.

These. There's plenty of material within the Star Trek universe without having to use the one iconic villain from the only previous movie that they probably have no chance of topping. That being said, Carbonell would be a great Khan.

Meh, not enthused about this guy as Khan, and even less so about them bringing back Khan. Seriously, there's a TON of other directions the movies could go, I'd hate to see it turn into nothing more than rehashing old plots.

I vote for... William Shatner as Khan.

That'd get him into the movie and/or end his biatching about not being invited to the last one.

/what a tweest!

For fark's sake, don't do Khan! There's no need to. He's floating out in the void and since the universe is changed, the Enterprise won't stumble onto Botany Bay now.

The fact that he's even mentioning any ideas or characters from the original series is further proof that he's a hack. YOU SAID IT WAS A NEW TIMELINE!!! If the original timeline wasn't good enough for you, why are you borrowing anything from it?!! I thought this new Star Trek was so farking superior to the old one? If you're going to pretend you know what you're doing, then prove it, hackjob. Don't throw more of the canon into the homogenization process you've got going to pull non-geeks in.

fark abrams, the 'chosen boy' boy who ruined star trek.

he did nothing but "be born" to get this frachise.

-well...he did chum up to tom cruise.

so he's got that going for him.

saw it...will never buy the dvd.

the movie was lame, as far as "star trek" is concerned.

Khan happened before the new timeline, though. MEETING Khan, no, that hasn't happened yet. But he and his people did leave Earth long before Abrams made the old timeline go tits-up.

sorry...pavel wasn't part of that mission.

he hadn't joined the crew yet.

-in "jjs" 'trek universe'...he's already part of the crew, before they would encounter the botony bay.

let's not make the same mistake twice.

kahn had never met checkov, prior to ceti alhpa 5.

you cannot change the laws of physics...unless you are "JJ", evidently.

i hope this is the last time star trek is spewed by a no-nothing hack.

Bauer [TotalFark] 2009-11-18 02:22:37 PM

lucas- "let's have them escape the planet killer "death star", and then...have the 'princess' lead the empire right to their hidden base! (as opposed to going any where else in the farking universe, first, knowing that they are being tracked.)

unthinking masses- "that will be great, george!"

Eh, Abrams Star Trek was ok. I had some pretty big problems with it mostly being the total over-the-top portrayal of Chekov and Scotty and the fact that the Enterprise had massive water pipes and massive open warehouse-like spaces.

Sure, but Khan is still out there, and the original universe Spock would have to tell Star Fleet about him.

Hell, they should deal with Khan by simply finding the Botany Bay and destroying it.

but I'm thinking that they'll probably aim for a bigger name actor if they actually go with Khan as a villain.

Apparently the author missed the first movie as far as importance of of casting big names goes.

Seeing how JJ just mentioned he's going to do more timeshifting with this movie just makes me not want to see it.

When will Hollywood learn that the more emphasis you place on time traveling the more likely your story isn't going to make sense.

Case and point: Primer

Star Trek was basically about traveling the cosmos, learning about new cultures, banging alien chicks and hoping that your warp engine core doesn't blow up on the way home.

KhamanV 2009-11-18 02:59:39 PM
As a long time trekker who was raised on the originals and watched TNG premier with stars in her eyes...

I farking loved the new movie if for no other reason than the delicious, cruel joy I get from watching a bunch of whiny farking fanboys piss and moan about the changes to their canon universe.

It was space opera. It couldn't hold Patrick Stewart's jock, but it sure as hell was better'n the last few Trek movies.

/I think I have a theme this week.
//as an aside, less lens flare would be cool

Maybe Abrams should redo "City on the Edge of Forever" just to piss off Harlan Ellison.

We don't know when Chekhov joined the mission. He very well could have been scrubbing plasma injectors during the first season. He could have been seen and remembered by Khan. Nerd raging about it is silly, IMO.
