At this point, we're just hoping to have enough players left on the team to finish out the season.

Doesn't UT typically signify the University of Texas?

Figured it was before I actually read the article, now I'm less interested since I can no longer make fun of the Texas graduates in my office for it.

Abstruse [TotalFark] 2009-11-18 11:21:58 AM
Can we please find a way to distinguish UT as in University of Texas and UT as in whatever podunk crap cow-farking school they have in Tennessee?

/Seriously, nicknaming your school UT and using burnt orange as your school color? Ripoff much?

volfan [TotalFark] 2009-11-18 11:22:36 AM
On the bright side, we're still not quite on pace with Florida or Georgia! (new window)

Seriously, guys, you are going to chase Monte back to the NFL if you don't knock it off.

He must not be very good. All the guys with talent get 'taken care of' by the boosters.

University of Texas: established 1883
University of Tennessee: established 1794

Owned.

University of Tennessee: First game was played in 1891. Colors were chosen from a recommendation of a player on the first squad.

University of Texas: First game was played in 1893. Original colors were gold and white and changed to burnt orange and white in 1895.

In short, STFU.

And Tennessee would be sheep-farking. Texas would be the one with the cow-farking fetish.

Let's face it: If it weren't for a bunch of Tennesseans, there wouldn't even be a Texas. (Well, it would be part of Mexico). In short, STFU, Texas. We are your daddy.

I think all of you guys need one of these. Yours seems to be broken.

Seriously? Your team has one national championship in the last 30+ years (conveniently the same number as Tennessee) and suddenly you're the cock of the walk?

Two years is less than a decade. I'm beginning to question the effectiveness of the Texas educational system.

Doh. Hawkeye, you beat me to it.

Also Tennessee's institutional colors are orange and white...just plain ole orange. The men's atheletic colors are Tennessee Orange and white. Not Burnt Orange. Auburn is Burnt Orange.

About to be two in a month and a half or so. And how many BCS bowls have we won other than getting farked out of the national championship like last year?

I think they beat FL. They've had about as many legal problems this month as FL had in the past couple of years. Stay classy, Kiffin.

/I guess he was full of shiat when he was talking about them having no discipline problems
//at least FL wins football games and has academic depts. that rank in the top 50 in their respective fields

Oh, please. Kiffin already kicked two off the squad, and that's on top of the trouble makers he ran off in the Spring. Urban Meyer would have suspended Richardson for the first quarter of the Vanderbilt game. He probably won't have as many issues with thugs when he gets to Notre Dame, though.

keep dreaming, Volunthug. You guys are slated to be a football backwater for at least the next decade or until you get rid of that mongoloid Kiffin.

Urban isn't going to a crappy Notre Dame program in bumblefark Indiana, moran

I'm sure a man named after a Pope will be able to easily turn down any offers from a prestigious Catholic university, not to mention that onerous $500k buyout clause in his Florida contract that could be paid off with the change that falls out of ND alumni pockets at home games.

Most of it comes from Texas fans who like to claim to be the real UT when the truth of the matter is without Tennesseans there would be no Texas as we know it.

Your team was worse than Oklahoma. Oklahoma lost to an SEC school in the NC game. I don't really see how you're talking.

Yeah, because of all the "real competition" you've won against this year. How many good, ranked teams do they play...(ever)?

KiwDaWabbit 2009-11-18 01:04:37 PM
I heard that the University of Tennessee was established in 1794 and the University of Texas was established in 1883. Furthermore, I heard that the University of Tennessee began using a shade of the color orange for its football uniforms in 1891 and the University of Texas began using a shade of the color orange for its football uniforms in 1895, ergo any rumor flying around that the University of Tennessee stole its uniform colors from the University of Texas is likely to not be true unless the person who chose the shade of orange for the University of Tennessee's football uniforms was capable of time travel.

Can anybody confirm or deny this?

ChrisDe 2009-11-18 01:12:34 PM
Orange (any shade) is a nasty color for any athletic team.

You say UT anywhere outside of Tennessee, people will immediately think of the longhorn and Austin.

KiwDaWabbit: Can anybody confirm or deny this?

Time line for establishment of various UTs:

1794 - University of Tennessee (did not, however, remain in continuous operation)

1827 - University of Toronoto

1877 - University of Tokyo

1883 - University of Texas

1894 - University of Tulsa

1931 - University of Tampa
