Is there going to be a fight over which team gets the tickets?

DoBeDoBeDo 2009-11-18 10:25:18 AM
What? I've got my first beer open and breakfast on the grill at 9am when I tailgate for a 1 pm game and that's only because the parking lots are roped off till 8:45ish.

Of course I don't go to SC games so they might do things differently wrong

Sully11 2009-11-18 10:29:19 AM
They changed the time to accommodate the ESPN/SEC contract. So ESPN, you fail for blaming it on whatsherface.

grinding_journalist 2009-11-18 10:31:37 AM
CFB tix: $25-200 apiece

Hannah Montana tix: $250-1500 apiece

This can't possibly be about the money.

Since it's a SC home game, the SEC's TV deal with ESPN/CBS sets the time.

Despite what she may think, ESPN probably doesn't consult Miley's schedule assigning game times.

Wow. I can't believe they are seriously running with the Miley Cyrus angle.

Traffic to and from the stadium runs right past the Colonial Center. That said, the SEC/ESPN broadcast schedule is the far more likely culprit.

Isn't that Miley chick promoted by Disney?? If that's the case, I'd be willing to bet ESPN in fact DOES consult with her peeps.

The SEC has a TV contract with ESPN/CBS that guarantees that almost all of the leagues games will be televised. If I remember correctly, each team has 1 pay per view game. All the rest are on CBS,ESPN,ESPN2,ESPNU, or syndicated through the SEC network - think ESPN lite. They're also all on ESPN360.

Part of the deal is that the networks have a series of slots and a 'draft' sets the games a couple of weeks in advance. The 2:30 CBS game is pretty much the first pick, followed by the prime time ESPN game. Everything else is a 11, 11:20, or 6pm kick. The earlier times are usually the less marquee games of the week. Here's that weekend for an example:

Clemson at South Carolina (12 - ESPN)
Ole Miss at Mississippi State (12:21 - SEC Network)
Florida State at Florida (3:30 - CBS)
Tennessee at Kentucky (7 - ESPNU)
Arkansas at LSU (7 - ESPN)
Georgia at Georgia Tech (7 - ABC/ESPN2)

The big game is Florida/Florida State, followed by Georgia/Georgia Tech. They probably picked Arkansas/LSU third because of the upset potential. That pushed Clemson/SC to either the early slot or one of the smaller networks. Since it will probably be a competitive game and has bowl implications it got the early slot on the parent(ESPN) network.

Sucks to not know game times until a few days in advance, but it is great to see almost all your team's games on TV.

Why worry. I'm the biggest SEC homer around, but Clemson and Spiller are going to crush SC.

And that TV schedule has the sure shot CBS 3:30 game of Alabama v. Auburn being played on Black Friday this year. Keep in mind, however, that the UGA v GT game is actually on the ACC schedule since it is being played in Atlanta (thus the ABC slot, not ESPN.) Oh, and as a side not, SEC ESPNU games are not on ESPN360.

Unlikely. Huge corporations don't really like it when their profit engines collide. Disney wants you to watch the game on ESPN, watch the later game on ESPN2, then go to the Hannah Montana concert later that night.

I hate when its an early game. All season the games start at 12:30 here on the west coast and tailgating at 8:00AM on a Saturday is not my cup of tea. Driving out to the Rose Bowl at 7:00am is not enjoyable either.

/UCLA fan, all our home games this year were at 12:30.
