I like Lou Reed.

Provided they don't play any music, it'll probably be ok. Besides: Doug Yule could probably use the publicity, and god knows it's better if HE doesn't play any music.

What I'm saying is: I hate Doug Yule.

This band is nothing without Scott Weiland, amirite?

They should bring a Sterling Morrison urn and accidentally knock it over like Monty Python does with Graham Chapman whenever they reunite.

I saw Morrison and Tucker play in Hoboken shortly before Morrison's death. Morrison was gracious and kind, Tucker was a nasty sour biatch. They played marvelously.

This is nothing without Cale.

though I prefer the Cale-era line-up, the third album is just as good as the first two albums. Loaded, however, would be completely ignored if it was written by a different group.

Fair Warning.

/Thanks.

Lou will be on a stage with Doug Yule? Wow...that would have been very low on my 'likely events of 2009' list. This will result in some uncomfortable moments, I'm sure.

/I bet that Cale shows up

Doug Yule? Seriously? Reed and Co. must be trying to "SQUEEZE" some money from a rock.

yes, Doug Yule's only contribution was Squeeze...

Why is Doug Yule even there?

Ive listened to "Squeeze" recently, and OMG what a horrible, abysmal crapfest that is

Nothing more pointless than explaining art.
Glad I won't be there.

/Cale FTW

Lou has said some nasty things about Yule over the years, and Yule wasn't included in the 1993 Reunion; I'm surprised he is invited.

Like the others have said, without Cale it isn't as good.

Cale is playing Paris 1919 live in its entirety in Cardiff this weekend and is playing at January's Sydney festival in case anyone is interested.

Am I the only person on the planet who actually likes Doug Yule? Loaded is probably my favorite VU album, and I even enjoy Squeeze every now and again.

Are you serious? Normally I think you have fantastic taste, but Loaded is an amazing album. I can't think of another band who could write Oh! Sweet Nuthin or Sweet Jane. It's definitely a different direction from the earlier albums but I think it's brilliant.

I saw a panel discussion with Lou, Mo, etc. after they played a few songs. It was at a high school assembly. I was deaf for 2 days.
They were on smack
Here are a few quotes by Lou during the q and a
"Anybody can play like Ginger Baker"
"We use the inverted Tibetan scale"

According to Blender,Allmusic and Rolling Stone:

"Loaded" is a five star record.

Not sure what the exact reason for all the Yule hate here.
He got the gig when Cale left.
Somebody liked him once.

I don't really hate Yule, and I even like Squeeze. I was just making a crappy joke.

I don't think Yule did anything whereas Cale did.

Yule sings lead on a few songs and played a couple instruments, but he had nowhere near the affect on the general sound of the band as Cale did. Plus at least Cale got attributed a couple cowrites like Sunday Morning and the Black Angel's Death song.

.....except get hired by Lou Reed to join The Velvet Underground.

If Reed was so upset by Yule continuing as "Velvet Underground" in 73, why did he hire him to play on "Sally Can't Dance" and tour with him in 74?

Can't tell you craigdamage. Lou Reed is an enigma. Read Transformer by Victor Bockris.

Oh Sweet Nuthin is the only really good song on there. Almost every track on Loaded is bested either by a version on the Live 1969 album (particularly Sweet Jane) or the 2nd disc on the Fully Loaded album.

Loaded isn't bad, but it's nowhere near as good as the first 3 albums or even VU.

More John Cale love here. Saw him live in 1985 in a very small venue (a converted shearing shed). Everyone sat on the floor around the piano and just soaked up the brilliance.

If John Cale isn't there it isn't VU and the best thing Lou Reed has done for 25 years is "Songs for Drella" and that's thanks to John Cale.

Really? I'm the only one defending the third album album and know that Doug Yule's contribution to VU wasn't just Squeeze? WTF?

I celebrate their entire catalog as well. So, no. It's just that some people cannot appreciate changes in lineups. For example, Fleetwood Mac (I know, apples to oranges). Any Velvet Underground studio album is better than no Velvet Underground studio album.

/post Peter Green Fleetwood Mac FTW

I think their third album is their best, actually, but I also have lots of love for Loaded. I know you tend to like the wilder, more distorted stuff, but that album is just packed with great songs. It's one of my favourite summertime albums, whereas I generally don't need to hear Nico sing anymore.
