This isn't news, the Ramones knew about Chinese Rock along time ago.

Somebody calls me on the phone
Say hey-hey-hey is Dee Dee home
You wanna take a walk
You wanna go cop
You wanna go get some Chinese rock

I'm livin' on a Chinese rock
All my best things are in hock
I'm livin' on a Chinese rock
Everything is in the pawn shop

The plaster fallin' off the wall
My girlfriend cryin' in the shower stall
It's hot as a biatch
I should've been rich
But I'm just diggin' a Chinese ditch

j/k, yes I know the song is about heroin.

sigh are awesome. chtonic are pretty good too but sigh are in a different league when you compare the two. I can't really think of any other good Asian bands. I mean, other than Melt Banana.

NPR had a story on this yesterday where they interviewed some hipsters who were thrilled to death to be going to a really cool, unknown niche band concert (for PK-14) in a club in Brooklyn.

Had to sorta laugh, knowing that far less cool Chinese kids in other parts of NYC have no doubt known about this band for quite some time.

Loudness.

That is all.

My band in high school used to cover "China" by the Red Rockers, so I'm getting a meta-kick out of something or other.

/No, I don't remember why we chose that one.

both japanese, though

Loudness was from Japan. There was at least two Japanese bands that were fairly popular in the 90's. Can't remember their names though.

I hope it's not Chinese rap though. "Drop it like it's Szechuan" just doesn't flow, G.

The Chinese music scene hasn't just been exploding, in the last ten years or so it's gone nuclear. There's an interesting segment in Sam Dunn's documentary Global Metal, where he interviews the members of Ritual Day and visits a large school dedicated to rock and blues, full of a lot of very intense students working to make up 50 years of Western musical evolution in a decade.

"We're going to play to a different audience and we don't know if they can accept us, especially as we will sing in Chinese, so we don't know," he said.

It shouldn't matter. Nobody listens to the words anyway.

Well, "indie" rock. So, erm, no thanks China.

I don't know... the song for the 2nd OP to Death Note is better then anything I've heard from an American Metal Band in the last 5 years.

Besides Loudness, the three that made the most noise stateside werre EZO, Earthshaker, and Vow Wow. More late 80's than 90's.

/It was bad enough when one of my college roommates used to play Korean rap.

L'Arc En Ciel or something like that? That was the one all the japanophiles liked when I was in high school.

Also, Korean rock can be pretty cool, my band played a few songs that I completely didn't understand because out singer was Korean. Chinese rock, on the other hand, is still largely in development and I cant' freakin' stand it even though I understand it.

Chinese? whatever. Japanese rock is where its at

Do As Infinity
Girugamesh

I love E-Z-O. Got both their self-titled and "Fire, Fire". Pretty sure they turned into Loudness somehow. Gene Simmons produced their first one.

Check out "Shadow" (band name and CD name) They've only got 1 release, but they do the Gothenburg death metal sound (with female VOX) as good as Arch Enemy or In Flames.

Gallhammer are an all female black metal band that are out there too.

I was going to say that the opening theme for Death Note: The Last Name was 'Dani California' by RHCP.

And then I realised that unless I see what you did there, you meant the anime, which is 'What's up, People!' by MAXIMUM THE HORMONE.

None. *goes off to google*
