Hmm subby isn't aware of exchange rates and pound vs dollar, that number is roughly $42, the article is in British Pounds.

It's more like $35m, £1=$1.67, roughly.

For 21 million dollars, I'd star in a gay porno with Johnny Depp.

Actually, I'd do it for a lot cheaper.

By far? Unlikely. I think playing Geena Davis playing Willy Wonka has to be considered near the top.

For $21M, I'd have sex with anyone. That's right, anyone. My whore threshold is roughly $18,734,000. Anything beyond that, and I'll spread my cheeks wide for the likes of Mario Batali (even after a sweaty-hog Iron Chef match prior to a shower).

ne2d: Well, considering that Jack Sparrow is by far his best role, what does this say about him?

No, it's his most financially succesful role. Which says tons about the viewing public, and less about him. Depp has always taken on roles that are a bit off the beaten path, but I'm sure he likes to get paid now and again. He's got some spendy toys (read the vanity Fair article from last year ... google it, I'm too lazy right now) he's got to meet the note on.
Depp is a farking stud... he could read a phone book and it would beat the pants off what most people consider acting these days.

10 years ago, maybe. Not today.

It's about $1.66 or so today. So... about 35 mil. Which is... INSANE.

I hate when publications over-emphasise PEOPLE'S NAMES as if it means something. Are the readers of THE SUN so incapable of keeping their attention on reading an article that they need some sort of highly visible insentive to pull them through. They might as well just put BOOBS at random places in the article to drag the reader along.

Johnny Depp is one of the few celebrities who has some class. I'll let him slide for selling out on this one.

/$21 mil? For 6+ months of work?
//I'd sell out too!

The last two Pirates movies were such garbage. Hire a farking editor for once and get that shiat under two hours. No "adventure" movie has had so much dead time on screen where literally nothing is happening and the dialogue is completely meaningless. Contrast it to something like Raiders of the Lost Ark and you can see we're in some seriously dark times right here.

I don't think he was commenting on their financial success. I think he was speaking more about how crappy the movies were. And they were. The second one was literally too dark. The third one was 17 hours of what the hell. The first one was great; harkened back to the time of campy, fun swashbuckler movies, much the same way the first Zorro brought back the joy of the great old movie of the same name.

Steve Zodiac 2009-11-17 06:20:34 PM
The last 2 Pirate movies were worthless, and I have no hope any new ones will be any better. But if someone offered me 20+ million dollars to star in a movie, even a crappy movie with poor writing, bad acting, and no real good reason to exist I would sign the contract as fast as I could on the fear that they would come to their senses and rescind the offer. And do would every body else.

Don't blame Johnny Depp for responding the same way any other reasonable person presented with a huge sum of money for very little effort would act.

That, or Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, John Dillinger, Sweeney Todd....

Worst role: whatever he played in Chocolat, which remains to this day my least favorite movie ever.

I wouldn't blow (heh) off his performance in the Pirates movies. They're movies based on a Disney ride with a silly premise and less than genius story. And the protagonist character was boring as hell. Depp's character is what made the franchise happen. Although I don't think a 4th movie is warranted.

Well, you'd be the one paying - or someone who desperately wanted to see us engage in some sweet sweet lovin' (most likely Mr Goodman, himself) - so YMMV on the emotions you feel.
