Who?

papercut 2009-11-17 02:13:13 PM
This album is really really great. I got an advance copy last week and have not stopped listening to it. Best album of the year!

xanadian: Who?

No...no, the Who doesn't have an album coming out soon. I mea, there's the tour, but that's not for a while.

Wait...oh, I see!

FTA: Vultures' singer-guitarist Josh Homme leads Queens of the Stone Age; Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl reprises drummer duties from his days in Nirvana; and bassist John Paul Jones once laid the bedrock for the mighty Led Zeppelin.

the entire album is up on Youtube - I love it and ordered it last week. Zep-Heads will dig it, guaranteed.

While this album is pretty great, I still wish it was a new Kyuss album.

FTFA:And air-drummers, rejoice! With Them Crooked Vultures, Grohl cements his rep as our greatest living rock percussionist (a fact that makes his nearly 15 years of playing guitar for Foo Fighters really sting).

I completely FARKING agree. Greatest drummer EVAR.

Oh fark. You see that dust cloud over there? That's Fark's Neal Peart Army, and they appear to be headed this way...

I checked it out last week after reading through a related Fark thread. I liked it... definitely got my head bobbing while at work, which is saying something. There was a fairly level influence of all three guys' style, though Homme's stamp is front and center which may turn off anyone that doesn't dig his thing.

Everyone should give it a listen on YouTube... I've read a lot of hate on here by people that supposed it would sound one way or another.

Neal Peart sucks.

Uh-oh... now you've angered the Fark music snobs. They'll be here shortly to let us know that every drummer we've ever heard sucks... but none more than Peart.

Put me in the "I love this!" category...I've listened to it 5 or 6 times and it really plays well from start to finish. It's an album and not just a few radio hits held together with filler.

Okay, before the F.N.P.A. get their panties in a wad, yes, Neal Peart is a great technical drummer. No doubt about it.

But the secret to being a great ROCK drummer is as much about knowing WHEN to use those techniques as it is HAVING them.

Grohl's magic hat may not be as deep as Peart's, but Grohl knows how to use the tricks he's got to a much greater effect. Peart's compositions can be a bit too busy sometimes.

I have really been digging TCV. I got the CD today, but I had mp3s a couple of weeks ago from a "sneak release" on their Facebook page.

I'm going to see them on Thursday at the Fox in Oakland. It should be a blast :D

Lumber Jack Off: Neal Peart sucks.

That's the only name I recognize from all the others mentioned in the thread.

Guess I have a new band to listen to.

Anybody noticed how much their 'New Fang' sounds like Billy Squire's 'The Stroke'?

Anyway - it's an ok record that people who need more classic rock-ish stuff (personally I think I've had enough - Rock has gotten so interesting in the underground over the last 30 years).

Peart is one of the best drummers around but his style of music is completely different than Grohl's

Peart is more musical in his drumming while Grohl is just balls out beat the living shiat out of the drums. Both amazing drummers but both very different styles.

El Chode [TotalFark] 2009-11-17 04:29:14 PM
My only complaint is that New Fang or any of the songs after it should open it. If you're going to open an album, it has to be low for the build up or it has to punch you in the face. This album opens up already at cruise control for the first 3 songs. 3 really good songs, but songs that need a proper lead-in

I see a group, but there's nothing super happening there. We're talking about a band with members of Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and Queens of the Stone Age, not kiddie music.

I prefer to think of it as a band with members of Probot, The Eagles of Death Metal, and the guy who did the soundtrack to Scream for Help.

/difficult like that

Fine, BE THAT WAY!

/we also would have accepted Scream, Kyuss, and the guy who did the string arrangements on The Rolling Stones' "She's A Rainbow"

if anything ever sold me on buying an album and putting it on the stereo as loud as is bearable, it was subby. hopefully, thanks in advance.

You guys can't brag about getting it before it came out when it was put up on YouTube by the band before it came out..

I didn't really care for it. A couple decent songs.

poot_rootbeer 2009-11-18 12:06:07 PM
There's certainly nothing to fault with Grohl's drumming, but nothing that raises him about the rest of the pack, either.

If this thread weren't so close to death, I'd say let's turn this thread into "create your dream band."

Anyone?

i was hanging out in the studio when they recorded this, and I have to say it sounds just as good now that they've cut the grooves onto vinyl.

Is anyone still here? Hello?

Oh well, after a couple days of listening, I cannot get enough of this album. Farking fantastic shiat.

Songs that stand out right now as my favorite (which will probably change after more listens) are "No One Loves Me & Neither Do I", "Mind Eraser, No Chaser", "New Fang", "Elephants", "Reptiles" and "Gunman". Great songs and the ones that if I were to put the album on to hear just a couple songs, they would be the ones I turn to. But the whole album is great.
