That was some mega fail by that goalie. Terrible angle and I don't think he would have had a chance at any high shot.

I kind of hoped he was going to nail the guy in the nuts with the ball while he did cartwheels, preferably while the goalie was behind the line so the goal also counted.

Imagine how cool it would be for a hockey goalie to do cartwheels on the ice in all his pads and equipment.

Why would the keeper be so cocky in a situation in which he has no more than an 8% success rate?

Ishkur: Why would the keeper be so cocky in a situation in which he has no more than an 8% success rate?

He wasn't cocky. I think it was a little mindgame, mixed with trying to make the goal look smaller. All of our goalies had a little something they would try and do before the kick, chin ups on the crossbar, flip off the kicker when the refs back is turned, because that's about all you can do during a pk. Once the ref blows his whistle you're usually toast.

I don't know jack shiat about soccer, but this "shootout" does look difficult to defend.

Allow me for a moment to go off on a tangent. I love American football. But wouldn't it be even a bit more interesting if the extra point kick was substantially more difficult? As it is, teams make well over 95% of extra point attempts, so a touchdown is just assumed to be 7 points. But what if that extra point were as difficult to make as, say, a 45 yard field goal? That could make many games much more interesting. Thoughts?

That's why the 2 pt conversion exists. The extra point is a formality

To expand, if the odds were any worse, they'd just go for 2 every time. Current 2pt rates are somewhere around 50%. Risk vs reward isn't enough to force this every touchdown, but if you drop the 1 pt conversion rate down it will probably be much more viable to go for 2 as a rule

He figured that since he'd failed in the previous 92 shots that he was 'due'.

Always good to see a douche get what's coming. As has been mentioned, why would you grandstand before something that is a 50/50 shot? And why the hell did the goalie dive forward? He gave away almost every angle by lunging diagonally towards the pitch.

MugzyBrown [TotalFark] 2009-11-17 07:32:03 AM
The ending in my mind would have been better...

In my mind the goalie falls doing one of his cartwheels and the shooter just taps it in.

To everyone calling "soccer" gay, judging by the awful pitch logo id say these are American teams, try doing that in England and you'll get you queer ass lynched (by your OWN supporters)

Ishkur: Why would the keeper be so cocky in a situation in which he has no more than an 8% success rate?

People basically assume penalties will go in, so all the pressure's on the kicke and the keeper has nothing to lose. So, keepers try to play mind games - a goalie I used to play with used to hitch up his shorts enough to expose his wang when the ref wasn't looking.

That was an interesting team.

random_brit_39: Brostorm: Is it even humanly possible to "react" on a kick like that?

The 'keeper usually guesses which direction to dive.

When defending a PK as a GK, you can do two things

1) Just pick a side and go balls out in a dive that direction a split second before the ball is struck. Sometimes you get lucky. More often than not the kicker shoots to his left (right footed)

2) Watch the hips of the shooter on approach. Closed hips means a shot to his left (RF), if he opens up he is going the other way. This give the GK a better chance at getting the shot direction correct but you need to delay your commitment a hair longer.

If the GK saves it, he is the MF'ing hero. If the shooter misses, he is the goat. As a GK you have to take that in to consideration. High probability of fail
