The following statement has been shown to reduce unwanted teen pregnancy by up to 90%

"Eating sperm can get you high".

Why are we not warming kids about the dangers (and awesomeness) of swallowing?

FTFA "This prevents the public from scrutinizing the body of evidence underlying the CDC Task Force Recommendations in the same time frame in which the CDC recommendations will influence the decisions of policymakers and public health professionals," she said.

The same members of the public that have all the data science can provide on evolution, geology and astronomy and still come out believing that God created people out of dust and bits of ribs and that brontosauruses were on the ark. So quite frankly, I doubt the ability of the average member of the public to fire up SPSS or R and perform the analysis themselves. I doubt even their ability to read to the bottom of tfa and see the CDC's justification and even understand what it means.

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2009-11-16 05:30:56 PM
It seems to me the analysis so far isn't available, however the data would be available to anyone wishing to look at it for themselves.

No, but I'm pretty sure it would spread herpes and gonorrhea. Use a farking condom. Why is that so hard to swallow?

I realize that comprehensive education is a plus, and practice makes perfect and that we have a very high incarceration rate in the country. But swallowing condoms? I really think we can leave off somewhere before that.

I would like to see the research and justification, and the CDC is a tax payer supported agency, so I say they should release both the results and the methodology. People whose minds are made up by beliefs and not facts aren't going to care one way or the other anyway. Release the information and they'll call it lies, don't release it and they'll claim it's a cover up. Release the study, all of it, and have other medical organizations comment or repeat the study to see if it's valid.

I was catholic, my boyfriend at the time was catholic, we rationalized it by deciding to get married when we both turned 18. That way it wasn't a sin.

Do you even need to see the data? Abstinence-only education failed so miserably that any other alternative would result in lower teen pregnancy rates and a reversal of the trend towards Idiocracy.

It was in mine. You know how much I remember of it? Nothing. Oddly enough, whether or not a study was statistically valid wasn't all that important to me in high school.

That's what they plan on doing, it appears:

FTFA: "Before CDC releases information to the public, it must go through the CDC's scientific clearance process to ensure not only that the underlying data are accurate, but also that 1) it is presented in a manner that is clear and not prone to misinterpretation, and 2) any inferences drawn from the data are defensible," spokeswoman Karen Hunter said.

She also said that all of the data will eventually be released when it is published in a "peer-reviewed journal," which can take as long as one year.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Do you actually think most who support abstinence-only education actually care about its effectiveness compared to alternatives?

Once they spread the Word, sh*t could splatter everywhere for all they care, it doesn't matter.

If they want to prevent pregnancy, and a whole host of other issues, they should be concentrating on what works best (physical, psychological, and social) to cause an individual to be INTJ/INTP on the MBTI assessment.

Sure, you'll end up with other problems, but I can almost guarantee a 99%+ reduction in the number of unwanted pregnancies and diseases.

/only half kidding...

Consider the source:

The Cybercast News Service was launched on June 16, 1998 as a news source for individuals, news organizations and broadcasters who put a higher premium on balance than spin and seek news that's ignored or under-reported as a result of media bias by omission.

Study after study by the Media Research Center, the parent organization of CNSNews.com, clearly demonstrate a liberal bias in many news outlets - bias by commission and bias by omission - that results in a frequent double-standard in editorial decisions on what constitutes "news."

In response to these shortcomings, MRC Chairman L. Brent Bozell III founded CNSNews.com in an effort to provide an alternative news source that would cover stories that are subject to the bias of omission and report on other news subject to bias by commission.

Attention wingnuts: Just because the media disagrees with you doesn't mean they are biased. It often just means that you are wrong.
