!!!! It still sounds like Alice in Chains!

I don't blame him. There's no good way to field a "gee, could you have done more to help Layne?" question, let alone take a follow-up on it.

Lost a friend to an OD years ago, and I'd probably shoot back a glare if a perfect stranger asked me a question about "what could I have done about it?"

The follow up question was rude and Jerry handled it the best way he could. Good for him.

And the new CD is remarkably good.

Never been a fan of AiC or any of those bands but in the Cantell interviews I've read he has always come across as a fairly normal (for a rocker) guy.

From the headline I thought he had walked out/hung up on the interviewer. Nice to see he didn't plus giving a decent answer.

Also nice that the interviewer didn't keep pushing the topic as some are wont to do.

Good read. I've always respected Cantrell.
How does Fark feel about the new album?

I think the link OD'ed.

Someone will find it in a couple of weeks. I'll read it then

It's... ok. All it makes me want to do is listen to Jar of Flies or Facelift.

It makes me wonderhow awesome it would have been with Layne instead.

I liked it at first, but I find myself becoming less and less interested to be honest.

I had to mentally superimpose him singing the melody

They did his house on Cribs several years ago and I was amazed how "normal" he was. Dude has a huge ranch in Oklahoma(I believe) and his dad lives there to. He loves John Wayne and western stuff. If you didn't know him, you'd never imagine he played in a hard rock band like AiC.

Article seems to have released from rehab and is staying clean for now.

I purchased the latest album for completion's sake (the only AiC CD I don't have is the greatest hits compilation because there's no new material on it) and it's better than I expected. It does pale in comparison to Dirt and Jar of Flies, but I still like it more than the bulk of the stuff that's out now.

But then, given that I'm old enough to have appreciated AiC at their peak, pretty much means that I'll by default hate all the music that's out today,

Yep. And don't get me wrong the album is great, I was just hoping they would have grown a little more sonically. It's pretty much the third Degredation Trip disc. imho.

I've met him a few times- he's always been a very "normal" person. Good for him for not whacking the interviewer upside the head.

In real life: The new album is fantastic and I am thoroughly impressed with how heavy and doomy it is. Also some of the best production of any album in recent years.

Since this is Fark: The new album is utter garbage.

I like the new album. It won't win them any new fans, but I find it hard to believe any AIC fan would dislike it.

my wife won a signed copy of the album. Only the new singer didn't sign it....

i dig the new aic a lot...and yes the production value is great!

strangely i've never gotten into cantrell's solo stuff...what are some songs you all would recommend for me to start off with?

Jerry put out a song called "Leave Me Alone" that I dug. I think it was his first solo single.

It's from the Cable Guy soundtrack. The new album is much better than Jerry's solo stuff. Tighter and better production.

Jerry's solo stuff sounds like it was recorded in my garage.

It's good, man--even better live.

Five Minute Standup 2009-11-18 09:18:17 AM
I was not expecting William Duvall to have an afro and be wearing bell-bottoms. Check My Brain is an amazing song though. The rest of the first few tracks on the album (all I've listened to so far) not so hot, though.
