I did that like 15 times in high school. no big deal.

a few times I would throw the ball then run down and catch it myself.

i scored over 20,000 points in high school.

Getting a kick, etc.

It's high school football, which makes it about as important as competitive cup stacking.

I've seen that happen a few times in professional gridiron, as well. It's pretty cool when it happens...

Eh, the Broncos already did it in the NFL this year.

Not very impressed until I saw that it was an 80 yard reception in triple coverage.

Now if they were down by 6.9 points with 1 second remaining, *that* would be dramatic.

Wow, talk about terrible safety help over the top: not only did he let the deepest receiver overtake him, the S wipes-out the only DB that might have a shot at tackling the WR too.

\the DB that got trucked is still laid-out on the home team's sideline at the end of the play

Subby here.

The video I initially submitted does not show everything, but was the best one at the time. It was a playoff game in the St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves.

Chaminade (the visiting team) scored a TD with less than a minute to go, bringing them within 2. Then Chaminade kicked an on-side kick and recovered the ball.

With around 13 seconds left, Chaminade kicked a 48 yard field goal to take the lead by one. With less than 7 seconds remaining, the home team, Webster Groves, was able to make a 80 yard TD reception to win the game.

Here is a link to a better video.

I'm more impressed by the 48 yard field goal at the high school level, the touchdown was just bad defense.

Last play of the game - how do you let a receiver get behind the secondary?

How do you not put one or two guys on the 20, just in case? A thirty yard completion does nothing at that point.

dhudd 2009-11-16 04:12:39 PM
We were losing by 6 points with 7 seconds to go when the other team did a pitch to the halfback, except our rover intercepted the pitch and took it to the house. Just couldn't believe a coach could be that stupid. Until I played in college for a coach who was at least more stupider.

So... really the best comeback title should go to Chaminade since they scored 11 points in the final minute (and successfully pulled off an onside kick). Just saying that seems more impressive than a good throw, catch and run. Webster Groves should win the best thwarting of a comeback award.

I guess it depends on whether or not the offense had a timeout left. If you put 2 guys on the 20 and the offense completes a pass on your 30, you're looking at a possible game-winning FG since you're only up by 1 point.

That is probably a more apt description. Chaminade scored at TD, recovered an onside kick and scored a 48 yard field goal in less than 1 minute. That is some awesome football.

They would have won too if it weren't for some crappy defense and a pretty good throw.

I must add that Iowa was dominating for 7/8 of that game but then proceeded to make JaMarcus Russell look like Joe Montana only to win what was rightfully theirs at the end of the game.

Pass into triple coverage, where what you'd expect to happen, happened. The defenders took themselves out. After that, just run it in.
