"Boy" from Ipanema?

Was that really necessary?

And the audience clapping made me all stabby.

Stupid white people clapping on the wrong beat.

And the audience clapping made me all stabby.

Saw her in Calgary this spring, great show.

I agree with the clapping thing. Worse was after every solo there would be applause which I think is rude, applaud between songs folks. I didn't pay $70 bucks to listen to a bunch of people in the crowd.

Thanks for the heads-up. I was about to click on the linkie, as I love Krall, but I loathe audience clapping. Tried to watch the video of her Paris concert, but couldn't stand the audience.

WOW!

I am sorry to say, I had no idea who this was but DAMN!!! I have never been aroused by a song before this. She has the ultimate "bedroom" voice. I'm in love.

/that voice could straighten a gay man
//she is on my x-mas list
///so is her music

ARGH. Couldn't even finish watching, the clapping was so damn annoying. Shut the hell up and let her sing you farkwads.

Like her earlier stuff more.

LOVE Brazilian jazz but it seems to the last refuge for artists who have run out of original ideas of their own.

She is attractive, though and because Elvis Costello is doing her I've realized there is no god.

Schadenfreude ist die schoenste Freude [TotalFark] 2009-11-16 01:59:49 PM
She really isn't all that great. Gets a better rep than she deserves because she's hot. Many, many, many more talented singers than her in that genre.

And it was slightly out of tune for the first 20 seconds or so.

nermatode 2009-11-16 02:04:48 PM
hate to be critical,
But she doesn't have the chops- not for either for the depths required at the beginning-which is where the power of this song is, or trusting her voice at the beginning. (so she wrecks it further- breaks rhythm and yaps)

This is not really a song where people clap in time-and it's not their fault at all that they do.

Whatever you do don't goto a Buble concert then. I don't think he finished a single song. He had to stop each one a tell a story...jesus..

"And I diiiidddd iiiiittttt MYYYYYYYYY"... "that song was actually performed by Betty Davis...great gambs that davis...she..."WWWWWAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!"

To my wife: "What the fark was that? Did he just tell a story in the middle of the song?
wife (dreamy eyed): "Oh calm down it's just the first song..."

45 minutes later:

wife: "What the fark!?! Shuttup and sing douchebag..."

I was kind of sheepish about coming here to post about stupid white people clapping on 1 and 3, but I'm impressed how many of you came in here to say the same thing. The level of discourse at Fark is often surprisingly high.

Then I thought about mentioning her poor pitch in the beginning, but figured it was too niggling an issue to mention. And someone else beat me to it. Excellent. You guys rock.

But applause after a good solo is a jazz tradition. Making affirmative noise *during* a kickass solo can be appropriate sometimes. Note that it's not after every solo, or after the melody, or after every time the drummer trades fours.

I concur. At her show the applause "got in the way", you're a musician you know what I mean.
As far as the 'clams', I've been to many live shows, happens to everyone. I know I have played way to many to be above reproach.

I was crazy hot for Eden back in the day, but I only have "No One Ever Tells You" and "There Again". Your picture made me look her up on Wikipedia to see if there was a discography and...

...she's a dude.

No, dumbass, she's not a dude.

Eden Atwood (January 1969 - ) is an American jazz singer. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee but moved to Montana at the age of five, following her parents' divorce.[citation needed] She is the granddaughter of A. B. Guthrie, Jr.
...
Eden was born with a genetic condition called Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. She is outspoken about AIS and intersex issues, working with national organizations and discussing her condition openly in liner notes on the Waves album.[citation needed]

Source: Wikipedia (new window)

She appears to be of the first type of AIS: completely female appearance, except she does not have ovaries and uterus. Physiologically, that makes her exactly as female as any post-hysterectomy woman.

I'd do her in a heartbeat. Even without the liquid-sex voice.
