A PROPOSAL

Pats/Colts is such a damn dead solid lock to produce incredible football games.
The Pats and Colts used to share a division.

Put them back, for God's sake.

I propose that the Colts and Dolphins be asked to switch divisions, creating the following:

AFC EAST: Patriots, Colts, Bills, Jets
AFC SOUTH: Jaguars, Dolphins, Texans, Titans (yeah, yeah, but they won't all suck forever)

As a bonus, it helps out the Jags and Dolphins; it should help build a rivalry there and give Jacksonville one last chance to fill the stadium before they get packed off to Los Angeles. (Which, if that happens, swap them with the Rams to get 49ers/Seahawks/Cardinals/LA Jaguars and Rams/Titans/Dolphins/Texans.)

Bunnyhat 2009-11-16 12:21:21 AM
That make's more sense then the Dolphins traveling all the way up to New York 4 times a year.

Plus like you said, huge ratings.

Meh - Brady and Welker got enough points for my fantasy FB win this week.

Gosling - You realize that one of those shiatty teams will lose in round one of the playoffs every year? Why bother? Wouldn't you rather have Indy and NE in the playoffs, instead of the 7-9 winner of the crap division?

They won't all be crappy forever. One or more of them will get good. It's just the way the NFL works.

Normally I'm all for going for it on 4th down in situations where most won't. That having been said...

Inside your own 30 against a team that has Peyton Manning playing QB? Wtf?

Phantom PI calls and losing 3 yards on a critical spot aren't exactly fair and square. Pats let em close, refs got em the rest of the way. Its the way things go in Indy... grats to them, probably see them in January.

Aside from the fact that those calls were correct, the team that was the beneficiary of the tuck rule and piss-poor officiating in the 2003 AFCCG has NO room to biatch about officials.

That makes insanely good sense. Too bad the Colts got screwed over in the realignment as far as rivalries. Well, in a way they did. In another way it has helped them reach the playoffs every year since the realignment.

Also, what an insane game. As a Colts fan I was screaming at the TV for about 55 minutes, and praying to god for the final 5 minutes. Reminds me of the AFC championship game a few years ago.

While I didn't agree with the Pats going for it I can see why they did. The Pats didn't think their D could stop Manning from going 80 yards with that ammount of time. It wasn't a cocky move, it was a move based on the situationa nd who they were playing against.

Ok, so once they did the stupid going for it on 4th down, why the hell did they prevent the colts from scoring at the 1 yard line TWICE? The chances of preventing the colts from scoring from the 1 yard line are infinitesimal, but if they had let them go in, they would have gotten the ball back with about a minute and a half, easily enough time to get into FG range.

Don't think so, but I know they have the record for the largest comeback in the 4th quarter (The legendary Tampa Bay MNF game) and the largest comeback in a championship game I believe (2006, obviously)

JerseyTim [TotalFark] 2009-11-16 12:38:28 AM
It's so obvious from the way Belichick and Manning are always fighting that they like each other. I wish they'd just admit that everything they want is right in front of them.

excellent question. maybe bb was too flummoxed at that point to think clearly.

The Hammer Is My Penis 2009-11-16 12:39:40 AM
Tuck rule was payback for the 1976 phantom PI, and the right call.

Defender was cleanly going for the ball when Collie stopped in his route, it should have been Offensive PI. Faulk made a one arm catch and had it secure past the marker. Any other stadium he gets forward progress. It was a strange, but not wrong call by BB on the 4/2... make it, game over. Fail, and Manning only has one less phantom PI to go for his TD.

I was surprised they tackled Addai at the 1 yard line when he busted through the line of scrimmage so easily for that 10+ yard gain.

It would've given them I think a little over a minute to get in FG range.

I got to agree, the 4th and 2 call wasn't THAT bad. The Pats' short passing game usually picks up 2 yards. At least more likely to pick it up than keeping Manning from driving 70 yards in 2 minutes with a timeout. I loved seeing that call because Belichick is probably the only head coach with the job security to make a call like that.

Best game of the season so far.

I said this in the other thread, but as much as it was a questionable call by Brady to go for it on 4th, you have to credit Manning for the defensive stop. And really there was a lot of sloppy play this game, like when Brady fumbled it in the endzone or how the rookie Mannings kept dropping Manning's passes. Still, a pretty good game, like it almost always is when the New England Bradys face the Indianapolis Mannings.

The only reason people are saying the fourth down call is a bad call is because it didn't work. You're 50-60% to win the game right there. Do you really think Peyton was that much more unlikely to score from his own 30 than from the Pats' 30? If the spot is a foot more forward (or they have a timeout and can challenge it) then they win and everyone just talks about how ballsy he is. He fails and everyone pillories him. It's not rational. By far the number one thing football coaches do wrong is not going for it on fourth down enough, precisely because they know they'll get slammed if it doesn't work out, even if it's the right call.

/hates Pats/Belichek and loves to see them lose, but also hates people who don't understand correct football strategies
