The iPod not flopping and the Patriots losing superbowl XLII are on the same level as Cheney's overconfidence on Iraq and Paulson miscalling the recession? Really?

Bill Kristol should have all ten spots. He's the George Costanza of political punditry.

How much revenue has the Ipod generated? It's driven most of the technology industry over the last decade. It's important enough of a missed call to be considered along with major financial missed calls.

Yes, but the Patriots losing Superbowl XLII is just...ridiculous. Of that, I think we can all agree.
However, I now have to track down John Connolly's book.

Also, Jim Cramer's botched assumption he could survive The Daily Show.

If you're going to pick a sports one, it's not Giants over Pats, it's Pats over Rams. Everyone forgets the line for that Super Bowl was the biggest line ever.

Jim Kramer made a faulty prediction? Stop the farking presses.

(His advice's success rate is around 50/50... even his show admits that.)

Really? I thought the line for both Pats/Rams and Pats/Giants was -14 (and I have to think a couple of those 80s complete mismatch Super Bowls had bigger lines).

All you need to know about Kramer is that he was a spokesperson for Mega Millions. Of course, you probably are better off spending your retirement fund on scratch-offs over taking his stock advice.

Usually these lists are funny or at least absurd.

This is just boring. And you can't use fake Steve Jobs as a rebuttal. That shiat is satirized fiction. There are plenty of quotes from real Steve Jobs.

"A Particle Accelerator Could End the World" is more of a possibility than a prediction.

The LHC has the ability to destroy the world under certain conditions. That doesn't mean it will or won't destroy the world.

I guess the fact that it doesn't work at all makes that a moot point, though.

Cramer wasn't talking about Bear Stearns stock. He was talking about Bear Stearns as a brokerage house. Listen to the viewer's question and listen to Cramer's answer. The viewer was asking whether to close their brokerage account, not whether to sell Bear Stearns stock. I can't believe people are still getting that wrong.

I'm not a Cramer fan, but this is a false criticism. If you're going to criticize Cramer, you should at least do it legitimately.

Graydon Carter Proclaims the End of Irony

My comment about 911 at the time was, in five years America is going to wake up with a big hangover. Then in 2005 when I saw this Link (new window) I knew the return to normalcy had begun.

I have a friend that was honestly completely sure that the LHC would destroy the planet. I had to do research and prove to him that what was required for that certain planet-destroying circumstances didn't actually exist.

On the other hand, when I think of the LHC now I think of What is in the box though there isn't really a relation.

/the box remains closed

How about a week before Washington Mutual went bankrupt, and he had their CEO on the show outright lying about their assets, claiming that they only had $10B, when in fact it was well over $40B. Based solely upon taking this guy's word for it, rather than actually looking at their books and researching, he listed WaMu as a solid company and advised everyone not to be afraid of investing.

So in retrospect, it is in fact quite a fair criticism of Bears Stern. It doesn't matter how well you think a company does their job. If they're going bankrupt, the truth is that they obviously are not doing it well enough to stay in business. Ergo the two are tied together and are the same subject.

Cramer brings up some good points some times, but the best is to research first, and invest in what you know and believe in based upon what products you use at home. Because at that point you are at least doing some sort of research about it.

ignite ice 2009-11-15 06:47:04 PM
Well, Bill Gates didn't exactly predict anything in the quote they use... he says "Let's see if they still want to run the business." Pretty sure we've seen that they did and do. Bill Gates wasn't "wrong" about anything because he never "claimed" anything, at least in the quotes they have.
