It's all show; Mayweather will make ridiculous demands that, at the very least, put the fight off for some time, and continue to walk around yelling about how he's #1.

What's with the Al Gore quotations in the headline?

foe2minutes 2009-11-15 04:29:22 PM
I dunno, tbrh, I think he's gonna do it this time. His (Floyd's) "character" is that he's only out for money, but he's a real fighter. I wouldn't know who to pick in the fight, either.

Last year, I'd have taken Mayweather in a walk.

not getting the headline reference is worse than showing up to a party with a boner in sweatpants.

The fight last night was awesome!!! I've watched the last 3 Pacman fights live (Pac/Hoya, Pac/Hatton, Pac/Cotto) and in each one of them I've been more and more impressed. I watched Mayweather/Marquez and was equally impressed with Mayweather. He just leaves his head sticking out and his arm dropped the whole time, ridiculous.

I hope this fight happens, I don't think Floyd will be able to duck it, and I'll bet his ego is hurting that people are calling Pacman the best P4P fighter in the world. The purse split is where things are going to get farked up, I can't see either one of them agreeing to a 50/50 or less than 50.

Let's hope Mayweather doesn't come down with a sudden case of Bernard Hopkins disease, and demands an absolutely ridiculous cut of the purse.

The world outside the US? (and PPV sales for Pacman fights in the US are pretty good.) The heavyweights are huge in Europe. The lower weights are huge in Latin America and Asia. The US is starting to appreciate the non-heavyweights, which will ultimately be very good for the sport here. Historically, to be frank, the vast majority of the best fights and fighters are non-heavyweights.

There is simply no way that Mayweather wins this fight, and he knows this. It'll only happen because he's going to get paid enough to not really care about losing his "undefeated" status, and he also knows that his losing his first fight to Pacquiao means that the rematch will break every record ever set in PPV income.

Man he got owned. Tries to make it a racial issue, blames every fight that didn't happen on someone else, has nothing but excuses about why he won't fight top guys until they are past their prime and totally ignored the fact his fights just don't sell as well as any other big name. The reason the other promoters aren't eager to work with him is that he wants a bigger share of the purse than his drawing power justifies. Hell, he's such a jackass he would pass on $8 million if the split was 50/50 and instead take $4 million on a 70/30 split.

And I have to say that guy knows his boxing. He even knew when Money was lying about the size of his purse.

I've seen every fight both have had for years. Pacman has the style, and mental strength, to take Floyd. And while I love Shane Mosely, I don't think he has the patience for a Mayweather fight. Manny is an expert at stalking his opponent and capitalizing on mistakes. He also has enough speed to not be overwhelmed by Money.

I doubt the fight happens though because Manny deserves at least a 60/40 split and Floyd will never accept that.

PunchDrunkPanda [TotalFark] 2009-11-15 09:45:19 PM
I sincerely hope this happens. Mayweather is selfish enough to legitimately prep if he thinks it will further his image, and Pac has yet to face anyone like him before. I'd wager Mayweather by decision, but only an absolute derp would make predictions at this stage.

Nice. Which show/podcast is this from?

Ra was on the Shady station on Sirius promoting his new album, and someone asked him about boxing since he's a diehard fan. Mayweather was listening to the station, heard Ra say his legacy is bullsh*t, and officially f*cked up by calling in thinking he's gonna punk some kid out using his star power, or runaround political answers, or just plain gibberish. Meanwhile Mayweather forgetting the fact that Ra actually wrote a book on the sport, and probably knows just as much about it than anyone else in our generation. I think it's exactly what Money needed to hear, and since it wasn't a sports talk station, and Ra isn't a talk show host (after that, he should be) he could say exactly what he wanted without recourse.
It's been rebroadcast on all the top ten boxing podcasts that I know about (which aren't that many). The entire beating is about 20 minutes long, and it has a great deal of replay value.

/I'm gonna chill on Shane.

Manny doesn't really stalk it's more of constant pressure (stalking implies trapping which he doesn't do). Manny wins by throwing a gazillion punches from all sorts of angles, and a couple of those are going to hit you flush and hurt you.

Money also doesn't overwhelm opponents, he simply frustrates them. You try a combination and you are going to miss and get hit in the face. PBF is a sublime defensive genius much like how Manny is a sublime offensive genius.

The question going into this matchup is 'Can Floyd frustrate and discourage Manny from punching or will Manny break through and injure PBF?' Either way this would be the one of the greatest fights of all time!

Also no way in hell can anyone justify anything but a 50/50 split. Both do huge PPV numbers, and Floyd has a baller history of doing stupidly large numbers in big fights.

/can you tell im excited about this?

Floyd is pretty amazing, but he's well known as a 'cherry-picker' of opponents - see Marquez.

Against Pacquiao, he'll be too defensive, and he will lose, either via a knockout when Manny catches up with him, or lose via decision because he'll be running too much and not being offensive.

Anyway, listen to the phone-in for what most fans think.

Sorry Floyd. I still remember you getting called out by Mosley and trying to ignore it. One of these two guys have to fight Shane pretty soon.

I think Pacquiao should take a shot at Pavlik. I'm pretty sure he could win against Kelly even if he stayed at 145.

Money has never fought a big name in their prime. He waits until they show weakness/flaws/age. That is not Manny right now.

Go back and watch last night's fight again. After about round 5 he did an excellent job following Cotto around the ring waiting for an opening. The difference is his unorthodox style allows him to capitalize on openings others can't, so he doesn't have to stalk near as long to make a move.

And Money heard one thing Cotto and his team were saying that can't be ignored: "He hits a lot harder than we expected." I'm not sure he wants this fight now.
