One of the sexiest women of that era. Good God she's hot... ok, and talented.

I've been a fan of Liz from the time someone handed me a bootleg GirlySounds demo back in 1992. It's been weird watching how those around her have tried to shape her into a pop princess when she should have stayed an indie goddess.

/listening to Juvenilia right now by some odd coincidence

She's a dirty dirty girl and I would like to subscribe to her newsletter.

Meh.

Anyone - especially a light-weight like her - who thinks they have the chops to write an 'response album' to 'Exile On Main Street' is delusional about their skills and abilities.

'Exile...' needs no response.

She is kinda cute, though.

Well, I see that all that needed to be said has been.
Thank you, appropriately-named Farker!

/can't wait until she finally finds the right key to sing in

She was a sex bomb till she had a kid, now she's trying to cash out. Our loss, but you can hardly blame her.

She has disappeared...

This song was boring and stupid. I'd hit it, though.

It's nice to be liked.

But it's better by far to get paid.

This. Always a response when someone complains that somebody "sold out".

There's just always been something about Liz...

She's little.

Interesting that she's into Brendan Benson. (I guess that's how you'd interpret this picture, right?)

1994.

Thanks internet, for reminding me how old I am.

/Was that Blackie O from Urge Overkill who popped up about midway through the video?

I remember when she used to brag about being a 'blow job queen'.

She was such the hotness...

Look up HWC on YouTube for her most subtle song...

She was my sisters college roommate. She always looked hot running around in her jammies.

(Phair, not my sister)

Great find, subby.

However, she, like other chick rockers in her day (Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Melissa Etheridge, etc.) turned mega-crappy after they became moms.

/Yes, even Melissa Etheridge, even though her podnars were the ones birthin' them.

I admit to owning Exile in Guyville and Whip-Smart, her two best albums. Great stuff, even if you are a male.

All went downhill from there...

overmonk 2009-11-16 09:39:13 AM
Pfft.

It didn't go downhill. It went sideways. She's not any better or worse - she's different than she used to be. I picked up her iTunes Originals compilation with a gift card last year, and she talked about how suring Guyville and Whip-Smart, she was really being overshadowed by her producers, and that whitechocolatespaceegg was the start of "her" mature sound.

I'm a big Liz Phair fan; I find something worth listening to on any of her albums. Exile in Guyville is a great album on its own merits; meh on a response to the Stones. Whip-Smart is pretty good too.

I don't get why people get so bent out of shape when bands or artists evolve. The ones that don't, stagnate (Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones), while the ones who do (U2, Coldplay, Smashing Pumpkins, e.g.) get called out for losing their 'sound.' It's their album, not yours. So it's their sound.

Yeah, about your comment: 'Guyville' was marketed and sold by her and her record company as a 'response' to 'Exile', so for you to say that that doesn't matter is just lame.

And again, why the fark she thought 'Exile...' needed a 'response' is beyond me;

She was answering a question that NO ONE asked.

What NO LOVE for "White Chocolate Space Egg"?

Sure, it wasn't "Guyville," but it kicked "Whip Smart's" arse.

It showed as much range as "Guyville," although in completely different directions as "Guyville."
