Just saw this on the news, apparently nobody called it in, the kids were so loud they could hear it from the station.

So hard to tell who the dumbass tag more aptly applies to : the kids drinking within what must be sight distance of the police station, or the cops for busting college kids for drinking.

Well, I live across the street from a police station, and I've been known to have a small, quiet party without checking every attendees ID before hand... or during, for that matter. But the trick is: SMALL and QUIET. Keep it to yourself, and they'll keep it to themselves... mostly.

Yeah.. I am also wondering how this happened? I thought that when you were underage and the cops show up you just run. Alternately, if the police come to your house to ask you to quiet down, you just get everyone inside and tell them that you'll quiet down.

I mean, can the cops just come into your house and arrest kids who smell like alcohol?

And would all 105 kids just line up to be arrested!? Hopefully another 200 climbed out the bathroom window.

We have this law where I live. I'm not sure how it is enforced or how often it is used. I don't see how they could force you to take a breathalyzer.

They can't however drunken college kids dont realize that. They should've pleaded the 5th and told the cops to fark off.

Driving is a priviledge not a right so in order to keep your liscence you have to sign over your privacy rights while doing so but in this case they couldve and shouldve told the cops to piss off.

They're underage and apparently the police smelled alcohol on their breath. So that gives them probable cause to give them a breathalizer. Pretty cut and dried. It's probably a cite and release as opposed to transporting them to jail. If you don't want the cops at your house, then shut the fark up.

How about you Google it for us? This is what I find for blood draws in Missouri, and the blood can only be drawn after there is probable cause for an arrest:

"A licenses physician, registered nurse, or trained medical technician at the place of his employment, acting at the request and direction of the law enforcement officer, shall withdraw blood for the purposes of determining the alcohol content of the blood, unless such medical personnel, in his good faith medical judgment, believes such procedure would endanger the life or health of the person in custody."

I lived about that far from a sheriff substation when I first moved out of my parent's house. We threw pretty big drug fueled parties all the time, and they wouldn't fark with us unless a bunch of people were hanging out in the front yard.

Yup, various states have some form of law like that. For example in Michigan your body is a container. So say you're drunk and in public, they have interesting ways in which they can apply open container or things like that.

The cops kind of sound like douches. In my college days it used to be that two cops showed up and told you "Hey, you're getting loud and people need to sleep, party is over guys." If you said "Sorry officer" and closed down for the night they looked the other way over checking IDs and stuff as people left. If you started back up after the cops left, then you got raided and IDs checked.

I wanna know how many cops it took to arrest 105 drunks. Either they called in half the police in Nuamsha or these were very docile, compliant drunk and horny college kids and the whole scene played out like the last minute of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

I had officers show up to my house three times in college.

First, they entered the house on their own and told anyone who didn't live there to leave. Completely ignored the underage drinking they saw. We had about 150 guests around 1am. Cool on them.

Second time they wrote a ticket to the first resident to find himself in the front the house, and it was 2:30AM, understandable.(same house as above) The officers didn't even try to enter. Just up and wrote the ticket.

Third (at a new house two years later) time he warned us if he came back he was going to arrest us all for violating noise ordinances and charge us $2,500 each. It was still daylight and there were five of us. No idea why he even showed up at the house.


Police can be completely arbitrary in the way they enforce the law.

I think the drinking age should be lowered. I've seen too many of these 20-22 year old kids having their first drinking experience to know that they always take it to the extreme. If they got exposed to alcohol earlier, they might not be so inclined to binge drink as if they'll never get their hands on a beer again.

Plus, I'm tired of the Nazis who take the no tolerance to the extreme. It is just getting silly. Everyone was a kid once, give them a farking break. I think that if the student in question has no priors, let them go, don't mar their reputation because they imbibed in alcohol past the age of 18. People are fighting farking wars at 18.
