You can say a lot of things about RVD, but you can't say he's not passionate. ECW's storylines and characters could get very cheesy, but nothing approaches the shiat they pull in WWE. They put their heart and souls into that production, and WWE's turned it into a shiatty minor league for Raw and Smackdown.

No; they gave him a job for many years when Paul Heymen could no longer pay his wrestlers. RVD threw his job away because he can't apologize when he gets pulled over with weed in the car when he had the belt.

RVD can biatch about Vince ruining ECW all he wants; people know the difference between the company ECW and the current brand ECW.

There is nowhere near enough talent in WWE to support three brands.

With Austin, Rock, Angle, etc all gone there's no one left. Undertaker and Shawn Michaels are both in their mid-40s and are being basically forced to stay with WWE (Undertaker is walking wounded and wanted to retire years ago) because there's no one else left to fill the void.

The ECW brand is just whatever is left over.

/Granted, that has nothing to do with the fact that the 'new' ECW is nothing like the old one where there was actual extremeness to it... I hated the old ECW, but I loved their extremeness.

Only in name. If the WWF bought out ECW and let it run the way it had (aside from the running out of money part) it could have been a place for guys who liked the hardcore style matches and the more local style of wrestling. The WWF could provide a financial net for them and since ECW's money would be the WWFs money there would be no need for the hardcore matches on WWF.

I agree with you totally. RVD seems to be nothing but a biatch who never really seemed to be much more than a joke anyway.

At least there's always DVDs with the "good old" ECW when I feel in the mood. I won't watch that brand any longer.

That bugged me. One of RVD's last angles in the WWE was a ladder match on PPV with Shawn Michaels. They just let it fester and didn't push it at all. I mean the marketting's right friggin' there. The Show Stopper vs The Whole fakring Show. Hell, even if they went with their pussified version The Whole Damn Show, that would've been great. Morons...

hey subby, the old ECW was more real than most wrestling ever was. they did shiat that most people wouldn't even dream of. granted Vince McMahon has destroyed what used to be good tv in the WWE by making it "PG". Rumor has it that McMahon was going nuts during the last ppv when John Cena was busted open the hard way, meaning they didn't plan it, and had the medics out there checking on him before they continued the match. I used to enjoy wrestling, and understood that it was essentially fake, but hey it was something to watch when everything else on tv sucked.

There is PLENTY of talent, more than enough to support three shows. The problem is that Vince is a juvenile idiot and loves to make his wrestlers do stupid things. and ECW is hardly "leftovers", they use it to build up newer stars and give more people exposure. They just don't have enough time to show everyone on two shows. They could definitely use their time more wisely, but ECW is a good thing.

Im largely out of watching wrestling these days, prefering old PPVs from the 80's/90s, but I do like tuning into ECW sometimes. I dont dig the old super hardcore crap. Guys jumping onto barbed wire and crap just seems stupid to me.

the reason i like the WWE ecw? its kind of cool to see guys who dont exactly have a big name on tv, plus WWE apparently puts guys they dont give a shiat about, yet I think are much better than given credit for (regal/golddust) on the show.

Old ECW fans were insane. If a wrestler botched a move, they'd hear the "You farked up" chant from the crowd.

It's not helping things that they're running the ECW show on the Siphy channel. I'd expect a program with oiled-up nearly naked muscular men throwing themselves at each other would be more Bravo's thing.

Yeah, because responding to someone who claims wrestling is "nearly naked musclar men throwing themselves at each other" by comparing it to mixed martial arts makes me gay. Uh huh. I see.

i stopped watching right after the Attitude Era.

it seemed to me that right after the TV show Survivor became a huge hit Vince McMahon decided that wrestling was going to be a reality tv show instead of a sport.

i want to see wrestling, not oily tattooed homos reciting scripts written by Hollywood writers.

i still watch my old ECW tapes and DVDs though, and RVD was/is the greatest talent today. he reminds me of Bret Hart.

maybe some day wrestling will return to how it was in the 80's and 90's, but as long as they feature leprechauns and clumsy gymnastic model chicks, and this reality-show-mentality i'll just flip right past it.

Southpark hit the nail right on the head.

Person Of Interest 2009-11-14 03:18:31 PM
For some reason, RVD leaves out the part where he and Sabu get busted by the cops for pot and various other drugs in their car shortly after he became champion, but of course that had nothing to do with him losing his main event spot and his eventual departure. It was all because Vince hated ECW dammit!

i meant that back then the wrestlers ran their own show, by and large.

noone told Randy "Macho Man" Savage or Ric Flair or Bret Hart who they were going to be, what they would wear, what music they had, what they would say and so on.

and they had matched simply cuz they were wrestlers, not EVERY SINGLE Match had some dramatic personal storyline reason for having a match. the Main Event guys had drama and storylines but the bulk of the show was just a bunch of matches one after another with an interview in between.

now every jobber match has some angle with his girlfriend or brother or some stupid crap.

i'm not saying the characters in the 80's weren't stupid but tat least they were mostly original ideas and creations from the wrestlers themselves. nobody taught Ric Flair how to cut a promo, and he didn't need a script, back them you either had "it" or you didn't.

the wrestlers today go NOT have "it". Cena and Orton are sad, sorry examples of what being a Champion means these days.

as a former fan it's depressing.

The other problems are that both the Raw and Smackdown shows have far too many guys, and that now the brands are keeping to themselves for the time being the main event players have to have the bulk of the shows to themselves.

It's not so bad for SD as it's the best show of the lot but for the so-called "flagship" brand on Monday take away the Cena/Orton/DX crap, Chavo Gets Humiliated, the obligatory Diva debacle and the Guest Host dicking around on camera out of a 2-hour show you have a total of about 30-40 minutes for the rest of the Raw roster. Per week.
