The Yellow Line now extends all the way to New Orleans? Last I heard it terminated at Huntington.

Right, well neither 17 nor 26 are the best players in football, so I had to voice my opinion. Also, one of two stadiums I've seen a football game at was the Superdome. Here's the girlfriend repping DC in NO i4.photobucket.com

I think you see where I'm going with this. The Eagles need a closer. A coach that they can bring in at the end of close games when they're trailing, or winning by a touchdown or less (save situations). As asinine as this sounds, tell me Eagles fans wouldn't strongly consider it."

Holy shiat, Gus Johnson is doing the Raiders/Chiefs game?

This is great news.

The way Gus calls turnovers is amazing, and he should have plenty of chances to showcase that on sunday.

The best player? Even though I'm not familiar with all NFL players I don't know if I'd say that. I'd say he's among the best players, and among the best QBs.

Dan Marino has no Super Bowl wins and I'd have to say he's probably better than Peyton.

Adrian Peterson isn't really a traitor. Unless you're counting growing up in Texas and playing football for OU.

Name someone else then. The only player I can think of that was also the core of their team, won a Super Bowl, and kept their team a contender most years over the last decade was Ray Lewis. Players and coordinators changed around him and that defense remained a beast. Kind of like Peyton and that Colts offense. Peyton has Ray beat though. I'd put Brady behind Ray in 3rd because the Pats defense won them those Super Bowls. The Pats haven't won yet as a great offense.

Zulu_as_Kono [TotalFark] 2009-11-13 05:58:44 PM

No, Peyton is better than Marino. Barring a career-ending injury, Peyton will eclipse every record Marino currently owns. And he could possibly break Favre's consecutive games started streak if Favre ever retires.

stats are the median of their 1st 8 seasons

Peyton's stats for the 1st 8 seasons...

comp----att-----yards----tds----INT----comp %----4th quater comebacks

346------542-----4149----31----- 16-----64----------26

QB rating
94.2

Marino's...
comp----att-----yards----tds----int-----comp %-----4th quater comebacks

312 -----522----3927-----30-----17-----59.2 --------37 (this is career)

QB Rating
88.9

Possibly, but you do have to remember when comparing QBs from different eras that the rules are very different; nowadays QBs are much more protected and so are WRs, making it easier to post better numbers.

I'm not saying Manning isn't better than Marino, I think he is...but statistics aren't going to be too useful in drawing a meaningful conclusion regarding which one is better.

So, are you wanting the best player period or are you wanting the best player with your added caveats?

Name anyoen with no caveats.

I mean, who even comes close? Adrian Peterson? Dude has not been in the NFL long enough and RBs are more replaceable than QBs.

Lou Cypher 2009-11-13 06:16:30 PM
It's difficult to measure the Colts offense by traditional standards, still it is rather amazing that an 8-0 team is also 29th in the league in rushing.

Bill Simmons is going based on value to his team + having been a champion. There's barely anybody even in the discussion with Peyton. Pats were 11-5 without Brady last year; no way the Colts pull that off without Peyton. Ray Lewis isn't what he used to be. Roethlisberger had a ridiculously good defense with the Super Bowl wins.

Or had a last minute drive against the Rams for a winning field goal after the defense gave up a last minute TD?

The Pats defense argument is highly overrated. They only won one of their championships and even that is debatable.

I'm pretty sure he meant "most important player in football" as in currently playing. Not "most important football player ever."

And that title should go to Jamarcus Russel, because he has proven that no matter how bad you are at your chosen profession, you can still get paid millions to go out there and fail your heart out.

That's the American Dream.

Why Would I Read the Article 2009-11-13 07:37:52 PM

Well, that defense was ranked #1 in the NFL that year, and was the only reason they beat the Titans and Colts in the playoffs, so it's hardly a stretch to say they wouldn't have won the super bowl without a great defense.

I do remember them recovering a fumble at like the Carolina 10 yard line, though, which turned into a touchdown. And in a game they won by 3 points, those 7 from the defense probably won the game for them.

The fact that Warner had a broken finger on his throwing hand had something to do with it as well.

I gotta think that with Warner at 100% the Pats get smoked but oh well, it didn't happen.
