I'm sure the NFL will donate the fine to them.

/not

Being a Giants fan, might I suggest an alternative pose for Eagles players that utilizes the pirate theme?

So someone is surprised that the NFL doesn't want its players advertising booze on the field?

Di Atribe [TotalFark] 2009-11-12 06:08:17 PM
FTFA: The campaign was going to donate money to Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund every time an NFL player pulled off the pose.

That is retarded. Just give them the money. Why do you need a gimmick in order to donate to a charity? Same thing annoys me about the yogurt campaign about sending in lids and they'll donate to breast cancer research. WTF, just send in the farkin money! Why do I have to go through this rigmarole for you to do the right thing?

"Look at me! I'm donating to a charity! But only if you buy our products and advertise for us."

My takeaway from the story?

There is a 100 proof Capt. Morgan's!!!

What was the score of the Eagles-Giants game again?

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: As per usual, Di Atribe speaks the truth.

Yes, he spoke the truth. They thought to get around NFL advertising rules with the charity thing, but it would still be way cheap NFL based advertising for Captain Morgan compared to the going rates.

You don't get to work with the NFL as far as advertising goes without a prior agreement, they have their own sponsors and the TV sponsors to worry about.

Foaming [TotalFark] 2009-11-12 07:24:26 PM
I still don't understand why another player had to help him lift his leg.

Daniels 2009-11-12 07:24:50 PM
Pretty brilliant, outside-the-box advertising idea, though. Cheaper than paying the player to appear in a commercial.

If the second player didn't lift up his leg, he probably would have been fine.

It's probably not that easy to strike that pose in pads on your own without something to rest your foot on.

Any publicity is good publicity. It was probably their intent to tick off the NFL all along.

KickahaOta: So someone is surprised that the NFL doesn't want its players advertising booze on the field?

No, the NFL doesn't want companies doing an end run around the NFL marketing machine to get free advertising on the NFL's dime. I'm sure that Anheuser-Busch InBev, or whatever the hell they're calling themselves now, for example, can push Bud and Bud Light, as they're all paid up with the NFL execs.

FormlessOne 2009-11-12 07:39:01 PM
veale728: Any publicity is good publicity. It was probably their intent to tick off the NFL all along.

And, if that's the case, the players will suffer for it - especially a certain Eagles tight end who decided to lie about his involvement with this publicity stupidity.

Daniels 2009-11-12 07:40:07 PM
veale728: Any publicity is good publicity. It was probably their intent to tick off the NFL all along.

They were probably expecting more than a week before someone caught on.

That's how NFL players choose a mate.

This coming from the League that wanted to put green patches on the feild and on jerseys for in-game ad's

I met Brent about a year ago. He's from Cincinnati. Seemed nice enough and was very nice to those around him (once they found out he was a football player).

I think it's funny he made the pose - involvement with Capt. Morgan's or not.

Of course, I could see the NFL getting a pit pissy about it all too - since no one paid them anything for it all...

True. Both teams look pretty rough at times. I worry as a Bears fan that the defense is gonna come down with a bad case of VD.

/though that would make my fantasy team happy

I can't remember the site that I used for streaming on my netbook - don't have it handy and can't remember it...anyone got a stream for the game?

=============================================

Um, the NFL is paying no one anything. The player makes a pose for an advertising thing, and the company makes a donation to a charity.

WTF is wrong with that?

Yeah lets make it official, what the hell is wrong with our Bears?
They suck is not an acceptable answer.

Are they ever going to get the feed from the booth back? It's been like 10 minutes. Of course, i don't have to listen to Matt Millen, so it's not so bad.

No offensive line, defensive line, our secondary try to tackle at the shoulders (like that Vernon Davis catch)...

That was at least entertaining in the amount of fail displayed. This game will just be uninteresting.
