Maybe Tony should examine that ball he plays with all the time that's made him so rich

Well... I guess it's better than the typical headline about Michael Vick and animals.

Maybe.

He is a handsome man... too bad his wife had to be there to mar the photo.

You really zinged him. Wow I'm sure he'll be questioning his life's decisions now.

I don't think the fact that one of the tools of his trade is made of leather, and he cannot make the NFL and all of the football world change that makes him a hypocrite.

Is he supposed to swap out the ball for a synthetic ball after a reception?

This guy really pisses me off with this crap because he's incredible hypocritical in his "vegan crusade". From the Wall Street Journal article:

Mr. Gonzalez, who grew up in Southern California, says cheeseburgers were his favorite food. But he quit them, substituting fruits, nuts and vegetables. At restaurants, he ordered pasta with tomato sauce.

Three weeks later, he walked into the weight room at the Chiefs' training facility and got a shock. The 100-pound dumbbells he used to easily throw around felt like lead weights. "I was scared out of my mind," he says. Standing on the scale, he learned he'd lost 10 pounds.

Mr. Gonzalez considered scrapping the diet altogether and returning to the Chiefs' standard gut-busting menu. First, though, he called Mr. Campbell, who put him in touch with Jon Hinds, himself a vegan and the former strength coach for the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team. Mr. Hinds suggested plant foods with more protein.

The Chiefs' team nutritionist, Mitzi Dulan, a former vegetarian athlete, did not believe that was enough. With the team's prospects and Mr. Gonzalez's legacy at stake, she persuaded the tight-end to incorporate small amounts of meat into his plant diet. Just no beef, pork or shellfish, he said; only a few servings of fish and chicken a week.

Fish and chicken? Aren't those animals? Not to mention he takes fish oil supplements and drinks Accelerade, which contains animal proteins.

So, in short, he's not even vegetarian, let alone vegan.

I don't think he said he was any longer. This protest is about fur, not food.

/still hates PETA

I know, I'm just still annoyed by it. And considering the article came out in Jan 2008, I'm pretty sure he was still claiming it at that point.

Unrelated, but reminded me of this:

Lisa: Thats right - a girl wants to play football. How about that?
Ned: Well, thats super-duper, Lisa. We've already got four girls on the team.
Lisa: You do?
Ned: Uh huh. But we'd love to have you on-board!
Lisa: Well... football's not really my thing... after all... what kind of civilized person would play a game with the skin of an innocent pig?!?
Ned: Well, actually, Lisa, these balls are synthetic!
Janey: And for every ball you buy, a dollar goes to Amnesty International!
Lisa: [crying] ... I've gotta go!

Exactly. It's just like if you have killed someone - you might as well go ahead and kill 10,000 people. Same thing. If you use a leather ball you might as well eat lots of factory raised beef and chicken at every single rule is all or nothing all the time. This is America. Unless you are going to never use gasoline again there's no point in trying to conserve it - you either use gas or you don't.

Excellent. Sorry about the typo below. Anyway, I just hate that attitude. "he's not a vegetarian, he has a leather belt - he only bikes to work when it's not raining and I saw him eat a fish taco - yeah, he doesn't have a car, but he takes a plane to visit his parents, ....".

Personally I'm not a vegetarian but I eat probably a quarter of the beef and chicken I used to and I buy local farm-raised stuff whenever possible. And fur just seems so wasteful and pointless. Do I begrudge an Inuit his caribou coat? Hell no. I just think it's a little different when we're talking about fur for urban fashion purposes.

First the Falcons have a Michael Vick problem. Now they are infected with PETA. There is just no middle ground for that team is there?

And if you actually DO cut down to nothing - no gas, or no animal products, or whatever, then they can call you an wierdo extremist.
