Nobody at my reunion had better try that stuff. One of my old girlfriends is now married to an Admiral, and a guy with the same last name as me was killed in Viet Nam.

My first greenlight involved a local politician who ran on a platform of being a former Green Beret. A local VFW guy thought that something didn't sound right, and did a little digging. Eventually it came out that he was a phone operator assigned to a Green Beret unit. It also came out that he lied to the V.A. about his service to get increased benefits. The former is embarrassing and damaged his political career; the latter is a federal offense.

Usually, people that brag about their military heroism are posing impostors.

Off the top of my head, I think he's actually got it right. A Purple Heart should be right behind a Bronze Star. He's got a Navy Cross, Legion of Merit, Navy & Marine Corps Medal and Bronze Star in front of it. I'm surprised he didn't throw a Silver Star in there as well.

What I don't get, is that he's a Lieutenant Colonel in the first photo, and a Master Gunnery Sergeant in the next.

Yeah, he actually does have it right. Wow. 7 years in and I've never seen someone have that many different medals senior to it. I stand corrected.

As much as mocking our resident core idiot amuses me, I do have to say that his outing as a fraud is hardly the most notable on Fark. I still think Flynavy's complete destruction at the hands of Zap Branigan (I think that was his name) is the all-time most spectacular faker outing. There was also some guy who had a picture of himself that people in the thread discovered was a polish commando or something. Don't remember the specifics on that one.

TCS actually had the nerve to show his face in the Marine Corps's birthday thread yesterday.

The guy you're thinking of was something like LAV270_Hunter. The photo he posted is the stock photo on Wikipedia for a GROM operator, which is the Polish Special Forces.

He claimed his buddy was "confused" and sent him the wrong photo, since he has a "similar" photo that's TOTALLY REAL, MAN! that's REALLY him, despite the fact that the guys in the photo are geared out in distinctively non-U.S. gear.

How about this for his punishment:

He gets to go to camp in South Carolina, say Parris Island, for a few weeks, say 13, where he will get very close to his DI.

Next, he goes on an all-expense paid trip to the Middle East courtesy of the United States, where he will spend 15 months mingling with the locals in Afghanistan. Rinse. Repeat.

Now, here's where the fail comes in: 1) he was talking to a table filled with four lesbians and two girls with live in boyfriends, both of whom were there. 2) REAL Marines and soldiers heard that shiat, including a messed up vietnam vet who almost ripped his arms off.

It's hilarious, as it makes absolutely no goddamned sense. The Army and Marines have a fierce rivalry, and the whole crux of that story is the Army acknowledging the Marines are better than them. Why wouldn't they send one of their top guys to the 75th Ranger Regiment, or Army Special Forces?

When I graduated Basic, the top graduate got an extra stripe, which still leaves you pretty far down on the totem pole. That was it.
