Okay, look, as a lifelong Bronco fan, I hate the Oakland Raiders with a passion. I hate their players, I hate their uniforms, and I hate their wife-beating fans. I hate the Chiefs and Chargers too (in fact, I *really* hate the Chargers now), but on nowhere the level I hate the Raiders.

However, it really hurts to see the Raiders become this much of a clusterfark joke thanks to the little gargoyle running the team. Playing the Raiders now no longer means as much to me as it used to, and that's disappointing. I still don't like the Raiders, but now it's not so much hate, but rather that I feel sorry for them. I imagine it's how Steelers fans felt when one day the Cleveland Browns up and disappeared to Baltimore.

I really do hope the Raiders someday climb out of the crapper, and I hope Al Davis doesn't live another 15 years to prevent that from happening. My football fandom is more fun with a real Broncos-Raiders rivalry.

I will only believe the firing was just if it is accompanied by a lengthy presentation on an overhead projector.

"With cause" = "Not going to pay the balance of your contract"

/Browns will be paying for at least 3 "head" coaches by next year.... our pain and suffering is no where near an end.

Tom Cable is a good coach. Get over it.

This would never happen if Al Davis were still alive.

Can we get rid of Al Davis "with cause"?

bukketmaster 2009-11-11 01:47:20 PM
So that'll be 2 recent coaches who got dumped with Al refusing to pay their salary, not to mention all the old bulls**t with Shanahan.I'm sure there'll be a bunch of qualified applicants beating down the Raiders' door.

That, or they'll have to hire some guy who was an assistant's assistant on some high school team. In-demand professionals don't work for people with a history of not paying their employees.

Al Kader 2009-11-11 01:50:59 PM
EVERY coach Davis has fired he has tried to claim "just cause", that's what he did to Shanahan, so Shanahan was stiffed on the money he was owed.

That's why Sean Payton is coaching the Saints instead of the Raiders. He was offered the Raiders job before the 2005 season, but stayed with Dallas one more year, then got the Saints job. The Raiders are toast until Al Davis dies.

Hmmm, so the Raiders will likely go into 2010 with a rookie coach who will be in way over his head and a lousy QB.

With the first pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select...

/love ya, Al

At this point you would either have to be mentally insane, totally retarded, or absolutely desperate for a head coaching job to take a job with the Raiders or Browns.

No Al actually is trying to come up with a plan to get rid of his coach whereas Danny boy is just hoping.

/So their next coach will come from a football powerhouse like Eastern Michigan or Rice?

Zorn signed a 3(+2) year $15M contract. Snyder's plan was to emasculate Zorn into quitting, to avoid buying out the contract. Zorn took a deep breath, counted to 10, and decided the money was worth staying. Zorn's going to eat it this year, then get bought out for that third year.

As for comparing Snyder to Davis, consider Snyder is this bad with only 10 years under his belt. Imagine another 10.

ihatedumbpeople 2009-11-11 02:13:08 PM
Pffft....his coach punches other coaches and 'reportedly' isn't kind to women.....has Al Davis looked in the stands recently? This guy is basically a Raiders fan that landed a coaching job.

jayhawk88 2009-11-11 02:23:05 PM
Good grief. Who the fark are they going to get in there and fill that job now? Even up and coming guys looking for a break are going to stay away at this point, as it's career poison. And they can't in good conscious run Art Shell out there for a third time...can they?

It's going to be so awesome to watch the hiring process. They might as well turn it into a reality show at this point: Who Wants To Coach The Oakland Raiders? Get a bunch of fat, drunken, 45 year old former high school state champs who have spent the past 25 years sitting on a couch thinking about the glory days. Or hell, turn it over to some 20 year old Madden '09 whiz kid...not like he could do any worse at calling plays. Come on Al, the league already considers your team a circus side show anyway, might as well go all the way and make some ad dollars.

You have to wonder at what point the league will be forced to step in and mandate league approval for all trades involving the Raiders. It's really sad, as that's a completely believable scenario.

I wouldn't mind coaching the Browns. (not me personally, but if i were a QUALIFIED candidate) Yes the Browns have been pathetic in their new incarnation, but you don't have the owner calling plays and making personnel decisions and overruling you at every turn. The Browns may be clueless, but at least they're not STUBBORNLY clueless.

If the Browns have a knack for hitting icebergs, the Raiders aren't just hitting icebergs, they're denying the icebergs even exist and continuing full speed ahead.

/nevermind that the Raiders ship has already sunk and Al Davis is operating them like he doesn't know that they're dead a la 6th sense

Just scrap the entire coaching staff and let the team play Sunday afternoon pickup style the remainder of the season. JaMarcus Fumble could play a little defensive tackle, Kirk Morrison could try some running back and Janikowski could finally drink beer on the sidelines.

Ha! I forgot about that. Although you could actually see this as a positive, since this will prevent Al from making another stupid decision and giving another overrated player tons of guaranteed money.

HZS9PK 2009-11-11 03:56:26 PM
As long as Al Davis stops paying coaches because of "cause" no good coach will want to coach for him. I mean, he screwed Shanahan. Also he didn't want to pay Gruden...

Dog Welder 2009-11-11 04:13:09 PM
bukketmaster -- though you're probably not realizing that the "guaranteed money" will probably have a rookie salary pay scale of some sort starting in 2011, similar to what the NBA currently does. So the Patriots will likely have a top 5 pick with a capped rookie salary. No negotiations, here's what you get, so get your ass into camp.

That's what he tried to do with Kiffin too. At this point if there's anyone left who doesn't know Al Davis is simply a bundle of psychoses wrapped in a human skin, I just don't know what to say. He's not just mean or old or sensitive, he's farking crazy. If he were your nutty uncle you'd have to go to court for power of attorney to insure he didn't kill himself with all his crazy shenanigans - unfortunately he's really rich so we'll just have to watch the train wreck unfold.

Pretty much how I feel as a Redskins fan. Sure I hate the Eagles with a passion (mainly their pathetic fans) but I would rather have our REAL rivalry mean something. Then again, everyone in the NFC East thinks we are their biggest rival, which is awesome. The only thing a Dallas and a DC fan can agree on however is that Snyder sucks and Cowboys/Redskins is the best rivalry in the division and league. Sorry Eagles fan, you never won shiat and you don't matter.

Brokenseas 2009-11-11 07:06:32 PM
Here's something that bugs me about Gholston.

He was a pretty good pass-rushing DE in a 4-3 defense in college. He gets drafted by the Jets and is converted to an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. He is a bust as a linebacker.

Everyone seems to write off these types of players. But if I was the GM of a team who uses the 4-3, I would try and get him cheap, whether by trade or after he gets cut by the Jets. Play him at his natural college position, and see if he isn't such a bust after all.

The articles about Gholston never seem to mention this.

Snyder may win the war of sanity, but I still say he's a much worse owner.

Al Davis at LEAST has a proud history to look back on including multiple Superbowl trophies. Snyder is like some spoiled rich jew kid using his players and coaches to play army men in a sandbox in his back yard and then melting them with a magnifying glass when he is bored with them.

If ever there were a reason for Al Davis to fire a coach with cause, this is it. Breaking the jaw of a co-worker and beating on women seems like cause enough for me.

I also didn't feel that bad for Lane Kiffin getting screwed by Big Al after Kiffin completely tanked a game against the Chargers.

Al pays coaches that keep their mouths shut and don't go around punching other employees. Art Shell and Norv Turner both collected their entire contracts, as did Jon Gruden and Bill Callahan.

The Raiders are painfully bad to watch this year. Their offense is as bad, if not worse than the Aaron Brooks/Andrew Walter trainwreck of a 2006 season.

How the Raiders have managed to win two games this season is beyond me. Tom Cable needs to go. Time to start over AGAIN.
