Had probably already been submitted at the "#1" slide.

Also, FTFA: "..the exciting Reggie Bush." wtf?

Submitter was clearly referring to that specific slide, to-wit:

They would have been better off starting over at quarterback with Young or Matt Leinart, or by taking the exciting Reggie Bush.

FTFA: Yes, New England is 9-4 and will win the AFC East, but that division is a joke this year, and if the Patriots were playing like they should, they would have captured homefield advantage in the AFC playoffs.

The last time the Patriots were 9-4 at any point in the season was 2006.

I think the point of this submission was that drafting Mario Williams, which was deemed a HORRIBLE OFFSEASON MOVE by SI, was actually the right move, since Mario is actually a great player and Bush hasn't lived up to the hype.

Theguybehindtheguy 2009-11-10 11:54:21 PM
Hmm, I think I'll go find the Peter King article from Pre-Season 2004, where he said he doesn't see any wins - not even one - on the Chargers' schedule.

I see what subby did there. Trying to single out the Mario Williams thing. And I agree, that was a huge miss by SI.

But overall that was kind of a hit-or-miss list. Some horrible, some right. Though they absolutely nailed #1 (Dolphins going Culpepper over Brees).

skinink 2009-11-10 11:54:40 PM
I like how they say Tom Brady complained about his receiver being traded away. So how did the team react to his complaining? They got Wes Welker and Randy Moss the next season. I'd say Tom was heard loud and clear.

I think everyone knows subby was pointing out the Mario Williams thing. Pointing out the obvious isn't too bright, if you ask me.

But who the fark cares? There are 4-5 other "projections" in that same slide show that are stupid and inaccurate and these chumps make horrible predictions on a weekly basis. We all realized 2 years ago that Williams was better than Young or Bush, and that the media was wrong. Why are we discussing ancient fail when there's plenty of current, relevant fail to go around?

Several teams are guilty of passing on the former Heisman Trophy winner, who went No. 10 to Arizona, but the Raiders might have made the biggest mistake.

I'm still not convinced that we should throw Leinart on the scrap heap. He was decent (especially for a rookie) when he first started, got hurt, and then lost out on the Cards' QB battle when Warner became Warner again.

I'm not saying I think he's going to light the world on fire, but I'd love to see him get a chance to start somewhere. I think there could still be something there.

FreakinB: I see what subby did there. Trying to single out the Mario Williams thing. And I agree, that was a huge miss by SI.

But it's not like it's Bowie over Jordan or the spectacular failure of Ryan Leaf or anything. Sure, Bush hasn't performed at the same level in the NFL as he did in college, but it's not like he's flamed out of the league or been a throw-in for trades, and picking Bush certainly didn't put the Saints organization back a number of years.

Oh, don't count me as without hope. He's getting the reigns after Kurt, so I damn well better hope he'll succeed. I'm simply lulzing at the apparent suggestion by SI that the Raiders somehow missed out on the next Peyton.

This team has won on talent alone. There's NO WAY this team should be 5-4. No excuses. And that's the problem really. It's all fine and good in Houston as long as you're not completely gawdawful like the David Carr era. This team has lost THREE games due to fumbles near or around the goal line area (Arizona, J-Ville and the Colts games). This team had absolutely no preparation for a rookie QB (Jets game). And this team didn't even know who the back-up QB was for the 49ers.

If you're OK w/ not completely sucking, so be it, that's totally cool. I'm OK w/ the Rams and Lions filling that spot for us. But just know this team won't be anywhere near its potential as long as Aggie Gary is coaching it.

Part of it is the division. You have to pretty much spot the Colts two wins over you a year (although that's starting to turn around), and then generally either the Jags or the Titans are having a big year when the other isn't. So even if you split the six divisional games, you can only lose about three more games to have a shot at a playoff berth.

Once the Texans start winning their division games regularly, they'll start making runs at the playoffs. And they seem to be at that point this year, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a wild card berth. And even though I'm a Colts fan, I would kinda like to see the Texans do well. I much prefer them to Jacksonville or Tennessee.

1. The first few posters in this thread are idiots.
2. SI jumps the gun on a few things here. Including:

#10, as Kerry Collins came through big time for the Titans last year, leading them to the NFL's best regular season record.
#9, as the Patriots ended up destroying everyone in the NFL in 2007.
#8, No idea how Steve Hutchinson has panned out. Anyone know?
#7, Not sure if passing on Leinart was a mistake, but drafting Jamarcus Russel sure as hell was.
#6, Roddy White is not a failure by any means.
#5, This seems true. Edgerrin James wasn't worth all that money. Cards did go to the Super Bowl, but not because of James.
#4, Redskins suck. Good call.
#3, Obviously a great move by the Texans. Turned out to be the right choice.
#2, Yeah, everything the Raiders have done has sucked. Pretty much hard to argue with any of that.
#1, Choosing Culpepper over Brees? Yeah, bad idea.

Well kids, hope you enjoyed yourself as much as I did. Nitey nite!

I don't know if you were being sarcastic, but Hutchinson has been a Pro Bowler the last six years (which doesn't mean much) and First team All-Pro 5 out of the last 6 (which means a lot). So basically he's the best guard in the NFL (think: Paving the way for the franchise in Peterson).

* 6× Pro Bowl selection (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)
* 5× First-team All-Pro selection (2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)
* Second-team All-Pro selection (2004)

Yeah, I liked those as well. I'd be curious to find any other lists like this that are made midseason. The only time these comments could be made with certainty would be if a team traded for a player that was then gone at the end of the year... teams don't only make a deal for the immediate impact. (not good ones, anyway)

jpat 2009-11-11 09:07:50 AM
I love seeing stuff like this - everybody makes predictions, but it seems like they aren't followed up on all that often. On this week's BS report, Simmons played back Jack-O's early season rants about the Yankees where he bashes Rivera, Jeter, and just about everything else associated with the team. Funny stuff.

Now that the cool story bro is done, the better Doh! is them questioning the signing of Kerry Collins in Tennessee. Granted, they didn't win the Superbowl, but they had a pretty good year under Collins last year.

Also, consider this was written near the end of the season, so they already had 13 games of hindsight in their favor.

organizm: #6, Roddy White is not a failure by any means.

Yeah I loved this line FTFA:

The Falcons have made several moves in the last few years to bolster Michael Vick's receiving corps. They've all been failures. Former first-round picks Michael Jenkins and Roddy White have had way too many drops this season, and the Falcons traded for former Broncos wideout Ashley Lelie, who has also gotten a bad case of the drops.

They all seem to be flourishing under Matt Ryan, it was vick who threw a shiatty ball to catch, thank god hes gone he was a terrible QB, great running back but terrible QB.

Not saying he's worth the money, but you really can't throw out the receptions and returns because that's part of his value. He's a unique player, and to not count the very things that make him unique is a little unfair.

He's definitely not an every-down back, but he adds a dimension that a lot of people can't. World's most expensive decoy and all that. Not quite worth what the Saints used to get him, but he has his role.
