(Some Guy) Dumbass If you're a cop it's probably best not to wait three days to send a runaway home. You might just get fired. Also you shouldn't really have sex with him either   (post-gazette.com) divider line 90

You wanted to have sex with a 39 year old man when you were 17?

Wow - the old I did not have geh sex with the underage runaway story, like that doesn't happen everyday. The key is not to help them board a plane, you have to keep them in the dungeon in the basement.

How about if it was the band. Would it be OK, then?

You couldn't tell me. I was laid off about five weeks ago. I've got no job. I just sit around all day reading some darn news compilation Web site.

the runaway was 17yo. according to wikipedia, consent is 16 in pa. so, like, the sex wasn't necessarily wrong, from a legal standpoint. also, i was not aware it was a crime to not turn in a known runaway. a 17yo runaway. note: i don't have a fark legal degree.

[insert humorous meme]

Hey, for all we know the cop could have been on the receiving end of things. No need to jump to conclusions here.

The Ninj' 2009-11-10 01:37:06 PM
this would make an excellent Law & ORder SUV episode.

A gentleman would have given him $20 for cab fare. But he was going out of his way To Protect And Serve.

"Crimes?" The age of consent in PA is 17. Professional misconduct maybe, but no crime.

There was probably some pretty heavy frisking and nightsticks involved at some point in time, I guarantee.

Aidan 2009-11-10 01:56:09 PM
No sir, I don't like it.
I know consent is 16, but the kid was in a bad place, and the cop is supposed to be an authority figure. Someone you can trust if, say, you're in trouble and you need help.
They've already fired him and are taking him to court, which is as it should be. If there's evidence that he coerced the kid (and honestly? taking him to your house? that's already near the line), put him in jail for a long long time.

lukelightning 2009-11-10 01:58:30 PM
The Ninj': this would make an excellent Law & ORder SUV episode.

Nah, these days the episodes always seem like they are going to be about something fun and sleazy, but end up being some entirely non-sexual crime, or about the detective's melodramatic personal lives. You know how they are... there is a report of a dead hooker in a dumpster, it turns out to be a manikin, but this leads to something about embezzlement at a department store, meanwhile what's-his-name is having marital problems again and the bald guy yells a lot and Ice-T drops more references about his tough childhood.
