Regardless, it was a better fight than i expected from the fish. As of late it seemed that the Dolphins record wasn't indicative of what they are able to do up until i watched last week's game with the Saints. I will admit i was a bit doubtful that the Patriots would win today.

Got to hand it to the Phins, they show up to play every matchup. Typically they do it by being physical and outside the box playcalling. That would be the action. Porter chose to use words instead.

Kind of reminds you of a saying that compares the relative value of action and words, huh?

/Go Pats!

Porter is an ass but I respect the rest of the Miami team and what they are building there. So I was expecting a tough game.

Remember that video of Joey and a bunch of his thugs jumping Levi Brown from behind in that casino. He probably deserved that bullet in his ass, probably deserved worse.

In Porter's defense, Brady does play under a different set of rules than the rest of the league. He wasn't wrong about that. He's still an arsehole, though, but so is Brady, so I guess it all evens out in the end.

During the game I'm pretty sure they mentioned that the Pats lead the league in roughing the passer penalties, so it looks like the Brady Rule doesn't benefit the Pats so much

And I don't care how often the Dolphins run the Wildcat Offense, since they are only 3-5 using it. I'm just happy that New England looked solid today. They are beating the teams they should and teams that are their equal. I can't wait for the Pats/Saints game.

joey porter did have at least one nice play in which he forced brady out of the pocket and made him make a bad pass. in fact, I think porter hit him on the arm and knocked him down alright. so what im saying is, is that stats dont say everything about the effectiveness of a player on the field.fark the broncos but if champ bailey gets zero stats, does that not say a lot about the CB?

Let me list them:
1) Wins
2) Is popular with the ladies
3) Doesnt talk trash - i just hate that
4) Had a GF leave him and THEN he is told about the pregnancy
5) Makes tons of cash
6) Makes less than he is able to (ala reworked contract 2x) so more money can be used to shop for support

the list could go on

I think Henne might even be a good starter for a number of teams, but he's clearly not the guy for Miami... not the way they are using him & throwing him into no-win situations. Sit the QB down for a couple plays, send him back in for 3rd and 15?

I know Miami fans are saying, "We just need to sign a WR who can catch" (the ones who haven't thrown Henne under the bus for the losses, anyway)... but what quality veteran WR in their right mind would play for this offensive coordinator?

But seriously, I'd think as a Saints fan you'd want the Pats coming into the game thinking they are all that and the proverbial bag of chips. IRT the bolded part ... Those that squawk on fark about how horrible the Patriots were/are/will be rarely let facts get in the way. They'll just ignore that detail and rail on about how much favoritism the Pats receive from the league.

IRT the Wildcat ... works great every now & again. But if a team is relying on it to work for a full game, I don't know if will work week in/week out, at least not with the personnel that Miami currently employs.

I'm a Pats fan and I think Peyton Manning is great. I want him to lose when he's playing New England, and to finish with one less win on the season, but he's a spectacular talent. The Colts and Patriots have played some great games in the Manning/Brady era.

I think its because Brady (and Peyton) both just come out and destroy secondaries. They don't really show emotion, they don't really appear to struggle, they just come out and make your back 7 look like chumps. For some reason a lot of people seem to equate emotionless precision passing with disrepect.

I hate Brady. Not because he is a jerk, not because he is a pretty boy, not because of the ticky-tack roughing penalties, but because of that damn Super Bowl against the Panthers.

I love having him for my fantasy QB! He's a beast. Started rough, but is prospering!

He's a good guy playing on an excellent team. What I hate most is the constant media fellating of the guy...but that's not his fault.

/jealousy...

macadamnut 2009-11-09 09:03:10 AM
Whatever. Joey Porter is the past and next year he'll be gone. Wake and Roth are decent OLBs, all Miami needs is competent safety play to be a really good defense for the next ten years.

What gets overlooked between the wildcat and the playoff run is that Miami is incredibly young. The oldest WR, and the most dependable, is Greg Camarillo, who's been a starter for two years. Ginn is in his third year, Bess his second, and the other two WRs are rookies. Both cornerbacks are rookies, most of the D-line were rookies last year, as were the RT and LG, the tight end. Oh, and the quarterback.

Fish fans just have to be patient, the team has been completely rebuilt after the destruction wrought by Cameron, Saban, and Wannstedt.

macadamnut 2009-11-09 09:14:56 AM
Oops, I meant LT and RG, but even so.
Also, the spectacular Dan Carpenter is in his second year, the punter is in his third.
My point is the team is still young.

It's not just Brady, it's all quarterbacks. These are the same "Michael Jordon Rules" of a decade ago reapplied for football. People don't want to see Jordan on the bench with 2 minutes to go. The NFL doesn't want to see the most important player on the team taking hard (usually defenseless) hits.

He actually did deliver on his trash talk last year in Foxboro. He said, "Matt Cassel is not Matt Brady," which he wasn't.
Unfortunately he turned into Matt Brady the next time he played the Fins, and Porter screwed us over with some stupid fourth-quarter penalty, which he has also done twice this year...
Basically he needs to blow out his knee again.

While I somewhat agree that it's not to the NFL's advantage to lose star players at any position, I disagree that they make up rules as a direct result of that fear of lost ratings or revenue. They make rules to prevent unnecessary injuries to players who are exposed or vulnerable to unnecessary shots.

Long before the Brady Rule came into effect, the league has banned spearing (lunging helmet first) high/low double engagement, clipping (blocks on the back outside of the tackle zone), blocks below the waist during any change of possession, and crackback blocks.

Believe me, Ray Lewis and Joey Porter are still playing today only because of these rules, and it infuriates me anytime they talk about special rules for QB's - although it delights me when they lose games and blame it on something other than themselves.

No need - his hammy has already limited him to the point where even this coaching staff (which makes moves at a glacial pace) is starting to limit his plays. Wake was getting nice pressure on Brady, but there was no one on the other side to take advantage. Still, it's pretty amazing how far the Phins have come where they're hanging in there against the Patriots even though they still need linebackers, a TE, and a WR.

Even as a Pats fan I have to admit the Brady in a cage image is pretty funny, saved it to my pics folder.

Although I don't understand why people are upset that any league would not try to not protect its players in general, but its star players specifically. In 2007 Brady and the Pats made the NFL a boatload of money. Wasn't their last game of the season broadcast on three networks (a first), while the Superbowl with the Giants the second most watched tv program ever, only trailing the final episode of MASH? Of course they are gonna protect the Golden Goose.

Thats also true, but the Pats defense is much different this year, too. Last year's edition had players like Bruschi and Harrison who had obviously lost a step or two and Miami did a good job exploiting that. The Pats worked on overhauling that defense, and now with younger, quicker players like Merriweather and Guyton taking on bigger roles they're looking a lot better.

jst3p: tommyl66: jst3p: They won the division using it last year with mostly the same personnel. I hate to say it but we are missing Chad playing an actual NFL schedule this year.

I'm not saying missing Chad isn't a problem, it obviously is. But I don't think this year's edition of the Dolphins is any worse than last year's team, but where the Phins of last year got to fatten up on the likes of the Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders, Niners and Rams this year's schedule has games against the Saints, Colts and Falcons (so far)...

...by playing against a qb making his second start in however many years, and also deciding to use the Wildcat for the first time (if I remember correctly) during that game, where the Pats D had no idea what was going on. I'm not saying at all that springing it on them was unfair, I think it was actually a smart move, just wanted to point out that after the Pats knew what to expect, the outcome was slightly different the second time around.

Also, what position did you play? I'm kind of curious, since you used "we" in your statement, indicating that you played for the Dolphins last year.
