Yes, it was all because of the QB. The loss had nothing to do with the complete lack of an offensive line or a defense that let an 0-7 team score 38 points.

I'm sick of everyone blaming the Packers' problems on their offensive line when the problem is clearly Rodgers. He just isn't pro QB material. Watch him play sometime. He does NOT look like a kid out there and he is clearly NOT just having fun.

Well, to be fair, Rodgers is developing a bit of a problem with not getting rid of the ball. Still doesn't excuse the linemen, though.

I don't think it's really a "problem", though. Rodgers is an old-school pocket passer. He'd be fine with a halfway-decent O-line.

That said, though, your point is absolutely right: he has to realize this and adjust his game accordingly. And he either won't, or can't.

Lundah: a defense that let an 0-7 team score 38 points.

7 was an INT return in the final seconds, 7 was a punt block returned for a touchdown, 3 was a FG on an earlier INT. So 21 points. Not great, but special teams have been just awful. Offense has been inconsistent. O-line sucks but Rogers holds the ball too long, and the offensive scheme rarely leaves a back or TE to dump the ball off (everything's downfield, if it's all covered you're screwed). Defense gets no pressure on the QB, Harris is showing how overrated of a cover guy he is, tackling on D and ST is just inexcusable...

There are some issues with this year's team. Rogers tendency to hold the ball too long is down the list, and him throwing INTs hasn't really been an issue (except this game of course).

Amazing to me the amount of grief Tony Romo gets for not winning playoff games compared to how much love Jay Cutler and Aaron Rogers get when they have career losing records as starters. If Romo had a game like that against Tampa Bay he would roasted over coals by the national media (much less the local media). Rogers will probably get a free pass.

Thrawn [TotalFark] 2009-11-09 12:58:52 AM
As a Packer fan, I must say that TT and MM's decision to stick with their revamped offense and defense is asinine. They continue to run a deep downfield offensive attack without a credible o-line, an established run game or a QB that makes quick decisions and is incapable of throwing the ball away when a play breaks down. They are also unwilling to make any defensive changes when they clearly do not have the appropriate personnel to effectively run a 3-4. These 2 are clearly unable to admit when they make a bad decision or adapt in any way. The players do not appear fired up in any way and have appeared extremely unprepared for most of their games.

/poor management
//poor coaching

Someone needs to tell Rogers there is this thing called "checking down to the running back in the flat" ... I'm not sure he's aware of it. Even Drew Bledsoe thinks he holds onto the ball too long.

Well, part of the reason the Bucs won was that they finally remembered they're supposed to play defense. That's been pretty much lacking up to this point.

I finally realized today why I didn't own a single piece of orange clothing until I was in my 20s--growing up watching the Bucs bungle games every week dressed like creamsicles, I developed a subconscious aversion to the color orange.

I don't know if Tebow will be good in the NFL or not, and at what position, but it annoys me when people say "he will get pulverized by NFL linebackers" and then in the next breath say "he will only succeed as a tight end". Make up your minds.

Oh crap, I messed that up, it was another 7 from that INT, not 3.

So 21 points I can't really put on the defense, though if they HAD held them to 3 it would have been nice.

But really, they gave up 17 points, not great but I wouldn't put this loss on the D.

Nana's Vibrator 2009-11-09 01:37:23 AM
Losing today has nothing to do with Favre. It has very little to do with Rodgers, too. He could stand to get rid of the ball sooner, but his offensive coordinator needs to get fired immediately. Their playcall selection is ridiculous. And a high draft pick on an offensive guard is in order. Maybe a couple.
I'm a Pats fan but it's infuriating watching Green Bay's offense leave so many points on the field. Yep, they score a lot of points, but they should score more.

I hadn't heard the "pulverized" bit. Pretty sure he's a big guy. I see him going to a pretty decent team and playing tight end while slashing/wildcatting at qb for some occasional publicity.

I think if you're going to go off on a rant about people saying that Tebow can only succeed as a tight end, you might want to know what position the player I'm comparing him to played. Hint: it wasn't tight end. Alstott was a fullback who was known for running over people, and who scored a heck of a lot of touchdowns with the Bucs.

It's not at all insulting Tebow to want him to play the kind of role that Mike Alstott played with the Bucs. They have a fairly similar running style, and while Tebow may turn out to be the one Gator QB who actually has a decent pro career, I think the odds of success are better if he decides to be an Alstott style fullback.

Is a Vikqueen with a small peener greenlighting these Packer links? Anyone with half a brain, including myself and many packer fans, knew that the packers are going to be lucky to finish .500.

Problems with the packers:

1) Form a pocket.
2) THROW THE BALL AWAY DON'T RUN BACKWARDS GODDAMNITSOMUCHROGERS.
3) We really weren't all that great even when Football jesus was with the packers before he retired 9 times. Farve didn't make the team, the packers did. I think some of the players and fans need to realise what a team sport is.

Running style is a very loose term for you. Tebow doesn't hit holes, he doesn't run or pass block, he doesn't explode out a three point stance, he doesn't catch passes, and he doesn't make special teams plays. Fullbacks do all of those, and good fullbacks spend their whole career specializing in that position and everything it entails. To say that he can be like Alstott is an insult to Alstott and other great FBs that actually put the work in rather than just be a heavy RB or down-the-depth chart RB like what the Chargers have done with Jacob Hester(notice the success of the running game has dropped dramatically after replacing all-time great FB Lorenzo Neal with Hester, who was a running back by trade in college).

The NFL isn't a place for project players, especially at tight end or fullback. Tebow will be forced to adjust as a QB or not play at all, because he doesn't have the experience to play any other position. He has a slow 40 time, he's already suffered one concussion, he diva'd behind Chris Leak, and if drafted high he'll be a very expensive project. That's not someone you take on unless you intend to play them at quarterback.

On the bright side, he can't be any worse than fellow SEC alum JaMarcus Russell.

homertone: For those blaming the O-line, have you not seen the stats regarding the amount of time Rodgers holds onto the ball?

It's a combination of both. The O Line for the Packers is terrible and either Rodgers needs to get rid of the ball quicker, or the receivers need to get more open.

And whoever mentioned the playcalling earlier was onto something. For them to be calling multiple deep pass plays with no O Line is retarded.

bhcompy [TotalFark] 2009-11-09 02:59:11 AM
Neigne: I thought Neal was a 'heavy RB' who got converted to FB after an injury

This is true, except it took Neal 5+ years to adjust and become that top quality FB. Neal was drafted in the 4th round, which means he wasn't paid particularly well, and he never had major ego issues either. Tebow will likely be drafted higher and has had ego issues in the past. A potentially egotistical project fullback being paid high draft pick money doesn't work at it for 5+ years bouncing from team to team after being crowned best college football player ever, and isn't worth the money as a high pick even if he doesn't have an ego.

Neal was also an excellent wrestler through college, which is a bonus foundation skill at a blocking position that Tebow doesn't have(blocking, power running, and wrestling all use the same basic principle, leverage, and as a former lineman, fullback, and wrestler, I can tell you first hand that wrestling skills, notably the ingrained wrestling instincts on body position and manipulation and how it pertains leverage over your foe, directly translate to the football field).

InferiousX: And whoever mentioned the playcalling earlier was onto something. For them to be calling multiple deep pass plays with no O Line is retarded.

I doubt every eligible receiver in the play is running deep routes. More than likely they have guys running to every quadrant of the field, it's just that Rogers is just eyeballing the deep route runner. Specifically, Rogers probably has a dump off option, likely a RB in the flat, he could use at any time.
