Connect the dots. Oxycontin is "a rocket ship to heroin". Rush Limbaugh was addicted to Oxycontin, and he said in 1997 that Sonia Sotomayor was on a "rocket ship" to the Supreme Court. Therefore, Sonia Sotomayor is on oxycontin and the Supreme Court is made of heroin.

We're through the looking glass here, people.

Heroin addiction is bad stuff. ~75% of the people I know who've run with heroin have gone to prison after committing some fairly humiliating crimes. DON'T DO IT.

He must be smoking some bad shiat, because that doesn't even make sense. Is Zyrtec a "rocket ship" to meth then?

If only there was a natural substance that people could take in almost any imaginable dose via almost any imaginable route -- that had no risk of respiratory depression, chemical dependency, hypotension, fecal impaction, and death....

Yeah but twelve's got "Rocket" in it (and samples of a woman schtupping). Really that whole album is permeated with heroin.

Under the Bridge

Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel like my only friend
Is the city I live in, the city of angels
Lonely as I am, together we cry

I drive on her streets 'cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and she kisses me windy
I'll never worry, now that is a lie

I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way

It's hard to believe that there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love, the city she loves me
Lonely as I am, together we cry

I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away

I spent the last month detoxing from opiates. I'd started off eating percale or vicodin recreationally, every few months, then started sniffing oxy 80's and the like. But the street price of that stuff is outrageous and heroin is rather prevalent in the north east US so I thought "hey, I'm smart, I'll only do it once and a while and save a few bucks."
Last year I started doing it near everyday with a friend. After he was shipped out of state for selling his father's Naval Academy ring, I stopped.
Over the summer I picked it up again.
It's a strange thing. The feeling is Heavenly, as if all the world for those few hours was right, you are full of confidence and joy, and not a thing could stop you. How do you quit that? I wasn't stealing, I wasn't shooting up and risking disease, I wasn't spending money on junk instead of bills.
I'd wake up and within 15 minutes think about heroin. Trying to find it was the most stressful thing, worrying if your dealer has any. And that excitement when you hear "yeah, I can help you" is like Christmas at five years old.
But it's heroin. And every time I came down I thought "god, am I just a stupid junkie?"
Maybe I'll wind up on it again, maybe I won't. I'm sure I'll find myself enjoying some sort of opiate. Dope is serious. It changes a person. And oxy is even better. So yeah, when smack is cheap and you've got kids unable to spend $60 on a single pill of oxycontin, you're going to have a real "gateway" problem.
Too many people get lost to that stuff. Hopefully seeing what has happened to addicts first hand will keep me from touching junk again.

Opiates and their chemical kin are very dangerous. Even when people get their heads out of their ass and decide to get off them, well, that's when it gets really dangerous. The person relapses, decides to use, and takes the same dose they were taking before. Welcome to respiratory failure and death. I attended a dear friend's funeral 3 months ago and it broke my heart to see his wife and 4 yr old standing there beside his body as myself and other friends put him in the ground.

Yes he had been through rehab, a very good program at that.
He was a very rich and influential person.
And he was a very good, nice, hardworking person.
He was my friend and a farker.

Just stay away from these drugs, and get professional help and post addiction support. You're risking a pinewood box if you don't.

/misses his friend.

For once, Elton references that weren't degrading, nice! I do love me some Elton John.
But oxycontin withdrawl is something I, unfortunately, know too much about. My twin brother took his life because he just couldn't go through the withdrawls again. He was prescribed them after a surgery to remove a cancerous testicle. That led to doctor shopping, and when going through his things after the fact, I was surprised at how many scripts he'd gone through. When his doctors found out he was seeing a few of them to get more oxys, they all dropped him. No sedatives to keep him from losing his ever-lovin' mind, no advice on help with withdrawls, nothing but a bill for their services and no recommendations as to how to go from three 80's a day to nothing. Bastards.
Around here, a 40mg goes for $25, an 80 for $50, etc. It didn't take him long to spend all his savings on this biatch of a drug. After a relatively short period of time, he had to take a certain amount just to feel "normal." Percs and hydros didn't affect him all, unless he took like a dozen of them.
I believe that all medication should be available to those truly in pain. But there needs to be some kind of tapering process when the pain subsides instead of just taking the patient off them completely.
Sorry for the rant, but this shiat really pisses me off.

To the opiate addicts who may be reading this, one word:

Ibogaine.

Read up on it. It could save your life.

I have an even better word for you: bupernorphine. Seriously, anyone who goes through withdrawal these days (hell, since 2000) is either too poor to afford bupe or just plain stupid.

Took oxycontin for months after surgery - no thrill if you take it as prescribed. (and you hurt like hell) It's a good drug that you can take every 12 hrs. without the hassle of taking something else every 4-6 hours.

This is besides the fact that if you can obtain a good supply Heroin is not as dangerous as Oxycontin. At least it won't make you go deaf.

I'm fairly lucky. My VA doc alternates me every 3 months between Oxy and hydrocodone.
I'm going to be taking something for pain for the rest of my life, and after 2 years this seems to be working out pretty well; I just start to build up an impressive tolerance when it's time to switch.

True, there, ID. The pharmacological differences between the two molecules, given the trade names Oxy and H are small indeed. Fentanyl and Diluadid are another couple of examples of similar agents.

An earlier poster made a comment about 'the addictive personality,' Sure, it is important to maintain several interests in this life.

If you are weak-willed, something addictive will find you.

The breaking of an addiction is purely about force of will.

And motivation.

If there seem to be no consequences (or no immediate consequences) then all the will in the world won't stop you doing something y9ou don't perceive as harmful and don't turn your will toward.
