Didn't it get signed up for a second season before any of the first season aired?

What was the name of that ABC Mike Judge cartoon series that was full of hippie liberals that went nowhere really fast?

Yeah, this is Seth's version of that show.

Some suits from Fox came into the office the other day, and I thought about asking them to bring back Futurama. I suppose a better question would have been "What do Seth MacFarlane's balls taste like?"

Bradog: Didn't it get signed up for a second season before any of the first season aired?

yeah that's what I heard. cartoons are low budget and they get good ratings just for being a Family Guy spinoff.

I like the Cleveland Show. It's not because it's enjoyable but because it's inspirational. As an unemployed person it is the carrot and stick for me to jobhunt. If I don't apply for five jobs per week then I have to watch the show. Believe me, I have a sprained wrist from filling out job applications just so this show isn't inflicted on me.

EverWatcher [TotalFark] 2009-11-07 12:40:08 PM
Family Guy was (usually) funny for the first few seasons. It was already tired and worthless by the debut of American Dad; The Cleveland Show proved that Seth doesn't know when to quit.

/ as further evidence, the "comedy show" ad you probably see to the right

Eyebleach [TotalFark] 2009-11-07 01:28:38 PM
I only watched about 15 minutes of one show before I changed channels. I wouldn't mind having those 15 minutes back.

Is the entire show full of suck, or does it have its highs and lows?

Considering that Family Guy is worthless crap, it's astounding to me that anybody could have believed a spinoff from it would be anything but worse.

thomps [TotalFark] 2009-11-07 02:24:50 PM
family guy is generally unfunny anymore but american dad delivers the funny for me just about every episode.

mybluemake [TotalFark] 2009-11-07 02:26:41 PM
The Cleveland Show is slightly less offensive Family Guy. It is not horrible, and certainly no worse than American Dad. I've not quite figured where they plan to go further with the bear and the wannabe hipster neighbor characters.

Futurama is coming back. On Comedy Central I think. I'm too lazy to look it up.

I heard his balls taste like they smell. Frankincense and Myrrh

Though the Cleveland Show has been subpar, subby fails for poor grammar and knowledge about the show having a second season. Proceed with the flogging.

I actually enjoy The Cleveland Show. Genuinely. I was really hesitant toward Cleveland being a main character, but I think it works and the supporting cast is fairly enjoyable.

Spinoffs and the secondary shows always take a little while to get used to. I didn't like American Dad at first nor Futurama, but once I watched a few on their own merits rather than the show they springboarded from, I grew to enjoy them.

There's more people that don't like it, they just tend to get labeled as an "anti-fanboy" & accused of not liking it just because it's popular.

I think that the show is ok enough, but it's not nearly as funny as it used to be. It's pretty much coasting on it's own popularity right now rather than it's own merit. I don't think that it should be taken off of the air today or anything, but I do think that they need to just step it up a little & stop phoning in the scripts for the show.

It would be 50% better as a show without that stupid bear character.

I've been ok on the Cleveland show thus far. The first one was rushed, but there was a lot of ground to cover. The one about him getting a new job was pretty decent.

American Dad can kick its arse any day, hands down. That one also had the best introductory show of the two.

Frankly I watch all three of Seth's shows. I don't think a show has to always be exactly what it was when it debuted 10 years ago to be worthwhile. Hell, The Simpsons has had some really good writing since the movie came out, but people are probably still seeing that "wacky adventures of Homer" phase as being the here and now, which it isn't anymore. There's a lot more character balance than there was in the early 2000s.

I hope the Cleveland Show grows into it's own. It's alike enough to get me to see the first few episodes, but definitely has that 70's/80's spinoff feel to make it different.

/TLDR I'm sure

I own all the Family Guy episodes before it was canceled. Once it was brought back, it became a horrid piece of shiat. I'm pretty sure Seth McFarlane went nuts after 9/11 and Bush 2. It sad how shiatty that show is now and even sadder he has such a large audience for 3 shows. The Simpsons may be a shell of its former self, but it's head and shoulders above all the other animated comedies on FOX right now.

Can't wait for Futurama.

I can't stand Family Guy (never seen any of the spin offs), but what's the point in criticizing it when South Park already nailed it perfectly?

I see the hater patrol has rushed in to inform the rest of the world of their post-post-ironic disdain for everything. Meh.

I still like Family Guy. American Dad was always about like KotH for me, I laugh at most episodes when I see them, but rarely go out of my way. The Cleveland Show I've enjoyed so far. It's not uproariously funny, but it's amusing and I've enjoyed it. So far instead of the 'what wacky solution will the gang find to this weeks zany problem' format that Simpsons uses now, Family Guy uses and South Park usually follows it seems more like an exploration of a theme. It's not about solving the issue so much as just illustrating it. That could just be because they're still building the groundwork, though. Not quite a show about nothing, but not the same cartoon sitcom formula so far. Eh, what do I know, I liked Frasier, too. *shrug*

I also like Cleveland as a character, though. Unlike Simpsons, Married With Children, etc or the dysfunctional distance of Hank in KotH, or Peter's outright retarded failure, Cleveland clearly cares about the people in his life, and shows it as best he can in his mild and somewhat ineffective way, instead of just one very special episode per season. For some reason the scene with him threatening the step-daughters boyfriend really amused me, him rambling on into his usual mild mannered nattering after smashing through the window and growling in the kids face. Eh, whatever. If you don't like it more power to you.

The Cleveland Show is funny. In the Seth MacFarlane universe...

...American Dad>Cleveland>Family Guy.

Rubber Biscuit 2009-11-07 04:47:52 PM
I'd still rather spend time with the Simpsons than anything McFarlane's ever cooked up. I just like the characters more. Oddly, the only one of those shows I can stand is American Dad, just because the stories are funnier.

I'm no FG fan, obviously, but I think the Cleveland show seems worse because Seth's shtick isn't shocking anymore. The FG empire was built on unfunny shock and tastelessness. When I meet a real FG fan, I know I'm not going to like that person. I've never been wrong about that.

Hating for the sake of hate doesn't make you a critic.
