Baucus was the lone Democrat voting against the bill; the committee's Republican members skipped the vote in protest over what they said was an incomplete analysis of the proposal's price tag.

No, Baucus (R-eally) was there and voted.

Out of curiosity, is this the bill that republicans were out in the grass stirring up teaparty folks while it was passing?

heh... I think someone secretly replaced Congress' Republicans with tantrum-throwing toddlers and are trying to see if we notice.

That's such a shame, since all attempts to work with the Republicans have been so very fruitful so far.

"No debate" - All who were present agreed.
"no amendments" - Am I the only person who thinks this is a good thing?
"no support" - 90% support from those who showed up
"no Republicans" - They weren't locked out, they chose not to attend.

No interpretation, there was a quorum and a vote. Ditching work means you don't get to be involved in the decisions.

A key Senate committee's Democrats on Thursday approved a plan to impose the nation's first-ever caps on greenhouse gas emissions blamed for global warming.

And there goes the economy...

For the sake "of the environment", so it's a good thing.

17% unemployment and the plan is to make it MORE expensive for the manufacturing sector to operate. yeah - great idea.

Hey now. It's for your own good so that the oceans don't rise 20' and whatever other calamities will happen if we don't do something NOW because WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!

RTFA subby. First the rules permit the action and this wasn't a special interpretation against the meaning of the rule.

Second, the farking Republicans boycotted the vote, thereby waiving their right to participate--their usual temper tantrum tactic lately. So too f*cking bad for them.

Is this the committee Republicans refused to attend?

Republicans: "We refuse to participate!!! WAAAAAHHHH, you're doing stuff without our participation!!!"

I bought a boat last week(canoe really). I plan on building one big enough to put two of every animal in. The people of the future will call it Muck4doo's Ark. I'm hoping to land on Mount Hamilton California.

Good. We're supposed to work with this bunch of whiny 2-year-olds that calls themselves a party? I'm glad Boxer pushed the bill through. Fark you Republicans. Act like adults for a change.

I'm pretty sure that the Republicans were free to come to this committee meeting. It's not Boxer's job to force them to come. If they wanted to vote, they had nothing in their way.

Once we get this health care thing fixed up, all the jobs that have been "on hold" will turn up.

I'm sure the reason nobody's hiring is because they're all just waiting to find out how get onboard this new health care system.

Imagine all those people who have been turning down job offers because the health care package was inadequate. They'll *have to* go back to work now, because they've run out of excuses for taking those jobs.

Here's a guy who doesn't know unemployment is a lagging economic indicator! Let's all point and laugh at him.

It's better when you use Meg Griffin's boyfriend's voice from Family Guy.

Fark the Republicans, they caused this to begin with.

I give the Dems at least 4 years to fix what the Republicans broke in 8.

Because that's how I meant it! Well, it's more like Frank Caliendo as John Madden, but still.

How can any conservative who supported the actions of the last 8 years possibly have any problems with these tactics?

After all, they worked so well for your side.

Or is it unfair when the other guys get to do it?

This. In the senate if half plus one of the committee are present, then they have a quorum. And with most committees (all but three if I recall correctly) half plus two of each of the Senate committee chairs are held by Democrats. As a result the Republicans do not need to show up for the committee to have a quorum and vote.

Their childish attempts to slow down the progress of these bills are not only stupid, but impotent.

If she forced them, they would be crying that she forced them.

They have all their temper tantrums pre-planned, ready for any and all responses.
