"It's...incorrect to say that we are able to disclose somebody's identity"

It's correct to say you are offering investigative agencies and data mining companies one stop shopping for all the bits they need to find out somebody's identity, and what you don't give up now you may give up later.

The net needs intense competition in search engines, mainframe-style services, email, etc. Not only because competition makes things better. So that there isn't a single point of anything -- failure or insecurity.

Meanwhile, I search for whipped cream on Google and use Yahoo! for birds. And that will work until G buys Y and merges the search histories and user profiles.

Why would you need a condom for a cucumber?

Unless it is a little whore and has slept around a lot.

Thought Zip Code + date of birth + gender render virtually 85% of population identifiable, or so I heard.

But then I am old and frequently confused.

With the information we hand off to websites that we visit they can track us to our ISP.

Unless your ISP is in the habit of giving your personal info out, stop worrying.

a friend of mine has worked for the same government organisation for about 5+ years. The other month he got pulled into a meeting with his boss because they had checked his recent search history (at his home) and thought that a search engine was actually pron or something.

I could understand if he was connecting to servers in the middle east and sending information to Russia or something. But porn at home? I am never working for the government.
