Yeah that's a bit much. I can't even stand the back/forward button next to my thumb on the cruddy mice we have at work.

I can't even stand the mice with buttons on the sides. I'm always hitting them by accident and causing some catastrophe. Unless you're a "serious gamer" (whatever that's supposed to mean), two buttons and a scroll bar are plenty. And even then there's a keyboard to fall back on.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Mac mouse, with no real buttons, just sides of the mouse when pressed act as different buttons. That could actually be more annoying.

There are a bunch of free programs out there that let you reprogram those buttons. I've made them copy and paste buttons and now don't enjoy working on a machine without them.

If it were my mouse, or my computer, I would have done something about it.

I saw that mouse at Best Buy the other day and kind of fiddled with it. Quick question, this may be because it was on display at Best Buy, but that hexagon shaped button on the side felt kind of loose and crappy. Like really cheaply made. Does yours feel like that or was it just the one they had on display?

I do want a multi button mouse, but I'm not sure what one I want. The Razer Naga (the image I posted previously) fails hardcore since those buttons on the side are bound to the 12 keys of yours number row and they won't let you customize them at all.

Isn't this why there are keyboard shortcuts for almost everything?

The button on the side works fine for me, it doesn't feel loose or cheap at all. The programming software it comes with sucks though, it works fine for WoW but it's a major pain to program the buttons to arbitrary keys.

no wait, that's my keyboard. Why the FARK would someone need that many buttons on a mouse?

Five buttons. Right click, left click, scroll, and buttons on the left side for my thumb (which act as forward/back buttons in browsers). It's just perfect for what I need.

Also, the Open Office mouse looks fugly, but they didn't really specify exactly what made it insane. I assume with some training it'd be a really great tool for people who are mouse-heavy in their use.

And Open Office took how many versions before it even supported .doc or .docx format properly? I don't thinking practically is in their vocabulary.

The Sidewinder has worked well for me. Enough extra buttons to be versatile without too many cluttering the place. But what I really love is the customizable weight tray and foot pads. My only complaint would be how light the click on the scroll wheel is, but you get used to it.

I tried that mouse. I couldn't stand the second scrollwheel thing on the side. Otherwise it was just fine.

You know when I started having wrist problems? When I got an internship developing software on a mac, and had to use one of those FSM-forsaken "puck" mice.

That mouse doesn't look any more comfortable.

+1 here. I'm just not cool enough for all those wild shapes and buttons. Give me just a left and right click, and a scroll wheel, and I'm happy happy happy.

I love my just broke it 3 weeks ago 2001 intellipoint mouse. That thing was nice. The gigantic mouse fit quite well into my hand. I could probably fix it, but that might take more time than I want to use right now.

Here's what I want:

A regular, decent ergonomically styled mouse, with your standard 3-button configuration prior to mouse wheels - with a mouse wheel inbetween the left and second button, as is normal these days, and then a thumb scroll wheel that is also a button for the sideways-scrolling. 5 buttons. Right handed only.

Razer is the only mouse for me, because:

1: it's wired
2: it's ambidextrous

I use a combination of my laptop's touchpad and a $5, two-button wired mouse.

Anything else strikes me as overkill.

I have an older version of the G5. Mine does not have two buttons on the left. I think I blew $70.00 on it, but I do not regret it. Once you have a nice mouse using a regular mouse feels really awkward and frustrating. And I am not even a gamer.

Trackpoint sticks are FTW! So easy to use with a thumb and doesn't require me to shift my hands while typing. Wouldn't want to draw with one, but for menus, hitting dialog boxes, etc., works just fine and quickly.

Until very recently I hated touchpads. But the multitouch pad on my macbook pro is very nice and is the sole exception to touchpad hate.

As for desktops-- mice suck, no matter how many buttons they have or whether they have balls or not.

Give me a Logitech Trackman so I don't have to keep moving my hand about.

Serious gamers only need the basic 2 button mouse with mousewheel for weapon selection. People who think they need more are kidding themselves.

Ditto. I have a slightly newer version that has a single, small button on the left side; however, I've never used it or hit it accidentally.

Not only are there way too many buttons on that thing, the design is horrible. It looks like it was made in the 80s or something.
