Ok, I've heard of Jimmy Choo shoes...

Pretty much clueless other than that. Who is this person and why is she being photographed?

That would be ridiculous if she weren't wearing possibly the most awesome boots of all time. And I kind of love any concept dress like this. I liked Bjork's swan, too. All this is missing is a tiny Richard Dreyfuss painted in a corner somewhere...

Anyway, she's a rapper/musician. She's supposed to wear ridiculous stuff.

I'll assume full earnestness here.

She's most famous for having This Song. (new window) It was a breakout pop hit, being played on the pop stations, rap/hip hop stations, and even alternative and some rock outfits.

Her biography and under-theradar cred enhanced her fame once she broke through.

And she's hot at times.

/And apparently wants you to suck her diiiiiick

Arular is a phenomenal album. Kala might be what made her famous, but it is not as good. You have probably heard two songs by her.

Why do celebrities always post for photos with their legs crossed? Who the hell ever stands like that? I've never understood this, does it make them look slimmer or something? Go through any recent press photos you've seen, in most of them they're turned slightly away from the camera with their legs crossed.

I always wondered why that one song became such a hit. As said above, it leans too much on that one sample and is pretty much the worst thing she did (with the possible exception of that track with Timbaland). No idea if it's the evil record companies or the stupid consumers or what, but at least it got her some attention. :)

Bjork's swan dress was far more classy and elegant than that thing. Also, Bjork is just kind of eccentric, but she never seems to notice what she herself is wearing--it's just an extension of her being.

MIA, on the other hand, is clearly AWing. Like Ms. Gaga and Imogen Heap*.

I have a short story about MIA.

My ex was obsessed with her. Apparently MIA is 'edgy' and 'political' because she writes about stuff that 'effects us all' and 'corporate greed'. I had to listen to this crap for weeks on end. I've heard every goddamn song, every worthless track this "musician" put out and I can say one thing - the only reason she sounds 'different' is because of her godawful jamaican/british accent that distorts everything she says similar to the effect of speaking into a cheese grater with one lip perpetually glued to it.

I suppose you can pick out some relative observation about the world in her lyrics, but definitely nothing profound or thought-provoking. There is absolutely nothing interesting, nothing appealing, nothing remotely resembling 'talent' in that so-called 'revolutionary artist'. The only way 'revolutionary' should be used in a sentence with her in it, is a way to start eliminating bad music from existence, possibly beginning with her.

Case in point, M.I.A. is not music. It is shiat.

Nincompoop? For stating something obvious?

M.I.A.S most known song.

The Clash's Straight to Hell.

I believe about 80% of M.I.A.'s "song" is a direct copy of the first ten seconds of the Clash song. The other 20% is simply her rapping over it, with very little change.

By the way, did you really need to go to Wikipedia for the word nincompoop?

It is but if you look at the song credits they're listed as the writers. At least she gave them credit and they didn't have to go after her like other artists have had to.

I have no problem with it... Just rebutting someone calling me a nincompoop for making an observation even the artist herself acknowledges...

Although, while on the subject, I do have to say I'm not really a fan of music that is SOOOO close to someone else's original work.

She sampled the first 10 seconds of the song, she didn't copy sh*t, you f*cking douche. It's not like it's a huge secret and she's denying ever using the song. She made sure everyone knew where the sample came from, and introduced a whole new generation to The Clash. It's not like Vanilla Ice lying about not stealing the bassline from Under Pressure.
