can't say I'm surprised. But I'm sure he'll land somewhere. He's got talent and versatility.

This is bad news: for Mrs. Myers

Alright brewers....GO GET HIM

azmoviez [TotalFark] 2009-11-07 12:54:44 AM
Just based on stats and potential and age he should be 10-12 million a year guy. Based on his pure unadulterated assholishness you have to wonder what a hit he's going to take and what team is going to take him.

My bet is that he'll be a Ranger or Oriole next year on a one year deal.

Not as much as you would think. Granted would Micah Owings have a job if he couldn't hit? But would anyone still consider Randy Johnson as a viable free agent if hitting meant anything?

Lets hope the White Sox dump Jenks in a trade and sign Myers to close for cheap

The Rangers have been getting pretty good lately at taking players nobody else will touch, getting them to behave and/or play well long enough to get someone interested, and then trading them just before they have another meltdown. As a Rangers fan, I'm cool with this.

I can't say this surprises me all that much. Here's to hoping he can land somewhere else and be successful without giving his team (or wife) a black eye. I still hope Philly destroys him any and every time we face him, but that's just me. Myers did well in Philly and has a ring that he deserves.

Now he's going to be the enemy.

/also hoping Pedro Feliz becomes the enemy... or at least the enemy while not wearing a Phillies uniform at the time.

Well put. I'm a little sad that Amaro's absolute first order of business this off-season wasn't to tell Feliz to hit the farkin' pike. I'm still depressed from this week's loss, but picking up Chone Figgins would go far toward helping me start thinking about next season excitedly.

Lee being around another year (go go long term deal?) and the possibility of Hamels and/or Lidge pulling their heads out of their asses excites me enough as is... even if Kendrick's likely to be back as our number 5 starter.

But yeah, eliminating the reverse-Dorn hole at third base would be even better.

You don't need to be a real "clone" to know the reference; it seems like Rome jams it down the viewers' throats at least once a week on JRIB.

I had typed out a response to this in which I said that you shouldn't be fooled by his 2008 NLDS at-bat against Sabbathia and his game 2 of the 2008 NLCS against the Dodgers (in which he got 2 hits), and that he sucks as a hitter ... and then I saw what you did there. Got it.

i'm thinking they might actually give drabek a shot at the #5 spot in spring training. they're pretty high on that kid. that makes a rotation of:

lee
hamels
blanton
happ
drabek/moyer?/kendrick?

that stands up pretty well against any other rotation in the league if hamels pulls his head out of his ass (as has already been mentioned)

i'd have liked to see them keep myers on as a reliever though. we could use some lidge insurance.....

Hamels' problem isn't in his head. Its his '08 innings pitched. The Verducci effect. Same thing happened to Mike Pelfrey. That or he just decided to pitch ineffectively all year

Maybe they'll dump "Choke in the Clutch" Howard too. He'd look good in pinstripes. Bonus: ARod teaches him how to hit in October.

Hey, what could be better than "New Yorkers will have one less Putz to deal with in 2010"?

Yeah, like that would affect Moyer's velocity.

Not quite the same with hand licky Big Pelf. He went from a not very good pitcher to a not very good pitcher. Hamels went from Cy Young to Big Pelf

Hamels problem was he went from really lucky to really unlucky, so everyone thought he sucked.

Hamels 2008: 7.76 K/9 2.10 BB/9 1.11 HR/9
Hamels 2009: 7.81 K/9 2.00 BB/9 1.12 HR/9

That's uncannily similar. You'd be hard pressed to find another pitcher in MLB with closer peripherals from '08-'09. His pitch velocity / movement were basically the same both years. In both cases you'd expect that to work out to an ERA in the 3.75 range, or maybe a little better because the Phillies, on balance, have fielders with pretty good range. He was lucky in '08 and unlucky in '09. He's still a good pitcher, but he's not as good as he looked in 2008.

I'm not too surprised Myers is gone. He hasn't been particularly effective for the last 3 seasons and he's the most likely guy on the team to make headlines for kicking someone's ass in a road rage incident or something.

Lee/Hamels/Blanton/Happ/Whoever is definitely a workable rotation, as long as no one gets hurt. You can deal with one Kendrick/Moyer/random AAA callup in the rotation, for a while, but two would be a mess. Unless they do give Drabek a shot, or someone like Bastardo or Carpenter turns out to have more than it looks like they do.
