(Slate) Interesting The Travel Channel may be sold for $975 million, although it only has about 370,000 viewers in prime time. Why so expensive? Because those 370,000 are an advertiser's wet dream   (slate.com) divider line 72

each viewer is worth over $2,600 to them? Wow, these people must be buying an awful lot of overpriced crap.

Timmy the Tumor [TotalFark] 2009-11-06 03:38:46 PM
well, yeah, because they run 53 minutes of commercials every hour, and re-play the same commercial 14 times during that same hour

(only a SLIGHT exaggeration...if you have watched anything on the Travel Channel lately, you know exactly what I mean)

So 370,000 people like to see screeching blondes in English castles and clueless lunkheads taunting the dead?

I like Man vs Food also. Not that I'd plan to gorge to the extent he does but some of that food he tries looks damn tasty. I'll be in Denver in January and plan on checking out at least one of the three places he hit. I must find a reason to travel to Chicago so I can find that place that serves that sublime looking Italian beef sandwich.....

When he went to the foie gras place in Montreal, I about died just looking at all of the food they gave him.

freetomato: I like Man vs Food also

The only reason I will watch this channel is because of Man vs Food. Unfortunately they also run that pompass idiot Anthony Bourdain WAY TOO MUCH (once is too much). How anyone can enjoy this douchenozzle is beyond me.

Yes, I know a lot of you farkers worship people like that, and even him specifically, but come on. While I concede he may (I don't know it though) have some redeeming information to convey, his arrogant, elitist attitudes make it impossible to find them in the seconds it takes to find the remote to change the channel to almost anything else.

You should read his book.

A friend of mine couldn't remember his name and referred to the show as "Rude Man Samples Food."

I like that show, but I have gone over to the Food Channel's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives for really scrumptious looking eats.

That's around $3000.00 a viewer to make that money back, from the advertisers POV. I don't see a billion in revenues over the next 5-10 years from those viewers.

Agree 100%. I also liked the Laos and Vietnam shows. His fascination with Southeast Asia was quite evident in those eppys.

Man vs Food is one of those WTF shows; it's like rubbernecking at a car wreck. I fully expect to read that Adam Richman had a massive coronary any day now.

One problem I have(and it's not a big one; just annoying) is that the program lineup my cable company provides for the Travel Channel is not what's on air(it's the only one like that). I've asked them about it, but they couldn't give me an answer.

That's similar to Sleuth's 5 minute ads in the middle of shows for either the Magic Jack, or that guy who wrote a book on how to screw over your creditors and get away with it(or something like that).

Zimmern is great and so was Dhani's show. Man vs Food is my favorite, though. When I visit my Dad in a couple months, were going to all the places he did in Sarasota. It's going to be fun.

I hated those two annoying Australian guys. Bite Me with Dr. Mike was kind of fun. I think with a couple tweaks it could be really good. He had one plant that he just rubbed on him and it made him roll on the ground and puke from the pain or something. It was great.

I want to empty my balls on Samantha Brown's funbags and lick it off. I think I could get her.

I'd like to see her and Kate Gosselin do a show. Maybe travel to Kabul together where Samantha could talk about local customs and Kate could visit with local moms and give child raising tips. And get blown up by a car bomber.

I'd pay $49.95 for that pay-per-view in a heartbeat, buy the DVD and the blu-ray, the commemorative box set, and see it for limited engagement in theaters near you and me.
