This is not really news. The news organizations love stories like this and will promote it to make a buck. At the end of the day most people who do these stunts get a job the old fashion way, cultivating your network of contacts.

I don't think it's irony, either.

Actually, I'd be willing to bet that most of the people who resort to these stunts do so because they don't have a functional network.

You're hired! That's exactly what I'd be telling you if you weren't an unstable goofball prone to wacky stunts.

Probably a mis-configured firewall.

If this guy whines about gas prices now, I'm guessing he would be the sort to steal colored pencils from work and put 'em on eBay. Put my sig on the "wouldn't hire the loon" petition.

you're right.

if there was only some place where stories like this could be compiled and people could comment on them. that would be nice. and maybe someone will eventually write a book about these not-news stories. i'd buy it get it from the library.

But occasionally you do find a gem there. I found a nice opportunity in an industry that's hard to get into. I was surprised, too.

I'm waiting for the callback next week, they've stayed in close contact and have said I'm a strong candidate so here's to hoping. :)

Say what you want about the news here, this story is soo lacking in anything even remotely entertaining that it is not farkworthy. Seriously, if you do a news story about a guy with a painted car resume, HAVE A PICTURE OF THE CAR!!!

It makes more sense than the Good Morning America segment in which it was suggested that displaced workers take unpaid internships. I changed the channel after some ex-cheerleader got done cautioning me to make sure the employer knew up front that I didn't expect a job from this unpaid internship.shiat, even indentured servants got *something* for their labors.

atomic-age: It makes more sense than the Good Morning America segment in which it was suggested that displaced workers take unpaid internships.

I did that once in '96. Told the place that I wanted experience and I'd volunteer one day per week. They thought it was ok, so did the guy that I shadowed - who told me after 2 weeks that he was leaving. He came in and resigned one day, they put me on the payroll the next day.

I'd rather see a resume with someone who did some volunteer time than someone who sat around watching soaps all day. I've had 3 unpaid people work with me over the years, I bought them lunch on the days they worked and even passed computer parts onto them if they needed/wanted them. Also told them to use me as a reference.

THe GMA recommendation was for people to do this full time. No suggestion as to what to eat in the meantime.

If the government allowed me to keep my unemployment benefits while working as an unpaid intern, I'd be down with that...

Not to mention that this would probably DQ you from unemployment benefits.

Beat me by two seconds.

I joined the unemployment train today too, fortunately I saw it coming so I have already spent some time looking. I'm a business analyst with experience and some savings, so I don't have it nearly so bad as some other people out there. Hopefully you've got some kind of cushion too. :/

Ah. FT? That I can't see. For meals, even when we had labor from the min security prison I'd ask the cafeteria lady to fix them up with some food.

Living off UI, drawing down my savings, and finding the occasional low-paid temp gig since 2008. :-(

The segment made me absolutely furious. That's just what unemployed people need--companies expecting that people work for free, with not even a glimmer of hope of a paid job.

Keep plugging, dudes.
I was unemployed for 7 months with hardly an offer.

Now I have a job making $10k less per year.
Bonus: It's 63 miles from my house.
Double Bonus: Stuck driving a gas guzzler.

I feel that pain, im hunting down a really solid job right now and it looks like it is on track to be a go the only problem is that i live on the very north tip of Plano, tx and the job is literally in the heart of Dallas, google maps puts the road trip during rush hour at 2 hours if traffic is bad. I will gladly welcome the bump in pay back up to my regular salary that I was use to but I am not looking forward to dodging traffic and all the gas needing to burn to get there.

I'm not sure where you are in Plano, but the surface streets north/south work pretty well when Central/the Tollway are stopped. Preston/Hillcrest cut through the North Dallas/Richardson areas with minimal delays most days.

I'm way up by 121. I found that the regular streets like Preston are worthless to use they get just as busy. If you leave early enough using Coit and Custer can actually be a ton quicker than the tollway if its backed up. Also if you use the road way right next to the tollway you an actually out pace the actual tollway pretty much everyday.

Coming back at 5 is a whole other story because no matter what time everybody went in everybody is leaving at 5 so the volume goes way up and those side streets become horrible. I never use 75 because no matter what time of day some kind of jackass was tailgating and usually ends up in the HOV with a multiple car accident which slows everyone down. Not to mention most of it is pure junk and ruins my car. I think the cost of the Tollway actually filters out some of the stupid and if I can take it I will, the roads are in better shape and it seems to be quicker a majority of the time.

In Denver, Colorado and many other cities, you're not allowed to even have a "for sale" sign on our about your car, much less your resume.

Did you two guys consider getting a sat nav with live traffic features? I find this well worth it, as the devices will take traffic messages into account and will route you around congestions and accidents automatically.

/wouldn't drive into DFW without it
