Those soggy, mushy things they call noodles in there are definitely not a selling point.

two scoops?

How about they worry about how much "chicken" goes into each can.

34 feet? I'm surprised and delighted.

Bought some recently. It was completely satisfying with a grilled cheese sandwich.

Mm, mm, good.

I hate those little chicken cubes.

Progresso is my preferred soup brand.

I just made a big pot of homemade chicken noodle soup this week, so I'm really getting to kick my cold to the curb.

Meh, screw it, I still love that soup. It's so cheap and soupy.

I remember growing up when my brother and I would share a can of chicken noodle soup, whichever one of us got the chicken cube were King for the Day...

Yea it ain't great but when you grow up with it every bowl takes you back to a simpler time.

I prefer stars to noodles

Postal Penguin 2009-11-06 12:43:41 PM
Campbell's chicken noodle soup is in a class of its own. It cant be compared to actual chicken noodle soup because a) it doesn't have chicken in it, it has small gristly chunks of mystery meat and b) it doesn't have noodles in it, it has spongy strings.

And chicken noodle soup is incredibly easy to make. My done in 30 minutes recipe is:
Saute garlic, onion, carrots and celery in butter until soft. Add 2 cans of chicken broth and 1 can of beef broth bring to boil. While thats heating up cook chicken with fresh ground black pepper. When its at a boil, add egg noodles and boil until al dente. Add chicken and you're done.

Don't claim its the best but it tastes better than anything in a can.

aegisalpha [TotalFark] 2009-11-06 12:43:44 PM
I really like their creamy chicken noodle soup. I ate it all the time in college.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2009-11-06 12:44:26 PM
Campbell's may make the world's worst chicken noodle soup, but my late grandmother had a particular talent for opening the can, heating it up and somehow making it taste even worse. She couldn't boil water without scorching it.

spacechicken170am 2009-11-06 12:45:00 PM
See, you guys are having trouble appreciating Campbell's soup and it's all perception. You choose to perceive it as being crappy soup. I look at it like a really awesome condiment.

Agreed. Chicken & Stars is much better.
My wife thought I was nuts until she finally tried it.

BlorfMaster 2009-11-06 12:54:32 PM
Hey, dont diss campbells. That stuff is a staple for poor folks like me.

I like the fake won-ton ones. Basically the same as chicken noodles, except the noodle is globed around a square chunk of chicken.

I'm fine with Campbell's chicken noodle. It's cheap, fast, and vaguely edible.

Only problem I ever had with it was when my 8th grade Health teacher pointed out how much the noodles look like tapeworms.

IrateShadow [TotalFark] 2009-11-06 12:57:02 PM
The noodles are pretty nasty. The stars, on the other hand...

Usually, I get the Cup-a-Soup Wonton soup (doesn't even have the chunk of chicken). I never saw Campbell's before, though...

Or I could open a can of Campbells and boil it for a minute. I'm sure yours is better, but its doesn't get much easier than Campbells.

When I was a kid, the only way I would eat Campbells soup was straight, without cutting it with water.

My favorite was Chicken 'n Dumplings. The nuggets were too big to get soggy, and there seemingly were more chicken meat fibers in the broth.

/Progresso soup, if you must eat canned, FTW.
//Loves to reduce roast chicken carcasses to broth in a slow cooker for later use.

zez 2009-11-06 01:15:37 PM
Its introduction in 1934 was near the height of the Great Depression.

Now the lack of chicken makes sense!

/does anyone actually add the water that you're supposed to?

aearra 2009-11-06 01:16:19 PM
My "noodle" is bigger than your "noodle"? How about making something other than this dreck soup. Anyone can make a better, and less expensive, soup at home.

RoyBatty 2009-11-06 01:19:03 PM
When you can barely lift your head and shuffle into the kitchen, finding a can of Campbells and maybe a piece of white easy to digest bread is heaven.

The good soup can wait till later.

Ahhhhh... those times that you're talking about when thin chicken soup looks the same coming and going. Yeah, a bowl of watery broth with and mushy noodles is pretty good then.

I have to agree - Campbells Chicken Noodle Soup really helps when you're sick.

I'd like 'em to sell Cream of Celery, 3-4 for a dollar, at least!!

Just gotta grab a sense of perspective here.
Campbells is to soup as a Big Mac is to a home BBQed Porterhouse.
Fast, easy and pretend nutritious.

The only thing they can brag about is how much sodium goes into a can. Seriously, you might as well dive into the Dead Sea and start drinking.

Seriously. Do they really need that much farking salt?

/buys a lot of canned vegetables when they're on sale, as fresh vegetables don't keep very long and, living alone, I can't eat them fast enough.
//they also have a bunch of salt, but it's less than the absurd stuff in soup

Yeah, it's salty. And yeah, with three cubes per can it barely qualifies as chicken noodle soup, but man, it's comfort food of the highest degree.

I had some Campbell's Chicke Noodle earlier this week. It really helped my body kick the flu to the curb. It never fails.

Their "healthy" line of "premium" soups is way better than their normal stuff. The Herbed Chicken with Rice, is quite good IMO.

Tavernknight 2009-11-06 02:13:01 PM
Eeeh its not so bad. When I have a cold I'll eat it but I prefer the Lipton chicken soup that comes in the little packages. I do have a recipe for a firecracker casserole that uses campbell's cream of chicken that will knock your socks off though.

I once saw a can of Campbell's chicken and rice soup that bragged "You told us how much your family loves the rice in Campbell's chicken and rice soup. We listened. Now with 35% more rice."

My thought at the time was basically what you've said here. Rice? Really? Come on, impress me - put some damn chicken in there.

Campbell's Chicken Noodle and a sleeve of saltine crackers kills every virus known to inhabit man.
