His freedom song topped the German charts in May, and was tanked by August. The first domino in the wall fell late in August, when Hungary opened it's borders to Austria, causing an exodus. The Gremans closed their border to Hungary, but then Czechoslovakia followed suit. So far, East Germany has no connection to these migrations, other than trying to staunch them.

Actual German participation started in September. No Hasselhoff on the charts anywhere.

In October, as things heated up, No Hasselhoff on the charts.

By November, when the non-physical wall actually fell, no Hasselhoff on the charts. The Lambada was huge, though...

In December, as all the glee was on, No Hasselhoff. Apparently his Freedom Idol Status did nothing to chart him.

Unless these charts from Germany are censored in some way, the whole thing sounds like some kinda PR spin to me...

I just want to know why I'm seeing will.i.am on CNN and talk shows and stuff all the time, as though he's anything more than a b-list rapper in a crappy group with questionable (though sometimes sort of nifty) taste in clothing. At least Jay-Z is fairly articulate. Why isn't Wolf Blitzer consulting Jay-Z?
