I'm a big horror fan, and I think all the Evil Dead movies are stupid and overated. And Bruce Cambell is a big hambone.

He is a big hambone, that's why he's awesome. He's like Shatner, he's good and got fans because of his personality, not despite it.

I approve of this.

So I guess I really will be going back to a theater.

Just when I though I was out...

I enjoy Bruce Cambell, and I liked Evil Dead, but those movies are definitely overrated.

I'd rather see a brisco country jr. movie ;D

Yeah, whenever someone says something is "overrated", 9x out of 10, it went a little over their head. It's rated just fine, you just didn't get it

Yeah, whenever someone says something is "overrated", 9x out of 10, it went a little over their head. It's rated just fine, you just didn't get it got hijacked by one of their annoying friends, so now they think it's stupid out of spite.

uh, I love the Evil Dead series and all but if you think someone is retarded or "just didn't get it" (cause Evil Dead requires a lot to get, ya know) because they don't like the movie, you are nerd, and not the good kind.

You do realize that for the 1/10th of all allegedly overrated things there are fans who would tell you that you just don't get it and that their thing does indeed belong in the 9 out of 10 not-overrated category right?

Entertainment is subjective, who knew?

I watched all the Evil Dead Movies when the first came out, well before a bunch of sheeplike fanfoys started jerking off to them . I TRIED to like them. I WANTED to like them. They're stupid and cheesey, and not in a good way.

I disagree.
In fact, I like to believe (based on the possession bits) that it takes place in the same world as the Evil Dead films.

No, the series is absolutely overrated. All cult films are, because the fans gush so effusively about how such-and-so film is the greatest movie experience of all time, there's no possible way any cult movie (or TV series, book, etc) can live up to the hype for a first-time viewer.

The Evil Dead series is great fun, but it's also a goofy bunch of schlock, and it isn't everyone's cup of tea. There's nothing wrong in that, and certainly nothing to get all huffy and snotty about.

Only saw the first Evil Dead, and I wasn't a fan of that either.

I'd say take 1 and 3.

they are good films and current horror cannot hold a candle to them.

I like Evil Dead 2 over the original, but both are great. You gotta love Bruce. Literally, there is a law on the books in Michigan. You can look it up in the state's law library.

I wholeheartedly agree with the first half of that sentence.
Loving an example of a kind to the exclusion of all others of that kind? I'm utterly incapable of wrapping my mind around that mentality.

Wasn't trolling. That movie was awful. Main character was annoying and dull, Justin Long was miscast and pointless, it was obvious when every single BOO moment was going to happen, and the camp (like the dancing floating possessed guy) wasn't funny. I'm not even going into the blood scene in the bank in which nobody reacts like humans react.

At least Bruce Campbell is interesting.

To each their own, but I thought it was a very well done horror camp. Only this time horror camp done with very stylish effects and quality Hollywood production effort.

Had this been done on a C level budget, we'd all be screaming its praises about how great of a low budget horror film it was.

I'll back you on this. And this is why I'm not going to see Evil Dead in the theaters: Raimi is believing his hype as a horror director when, in fact, the only reason the Evil Dead is remembered is because Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness went the horror comedy route. Without the comedy--Raimi's strongest point--he's a substandard director.

And Drag Me To the Soundsystem is possibly the biggest slap in the face I've ever gotten. Go away, Raimi. Maybe the Coen Brothers will put you in something so you can keep pretending you have any talent. Bruce Campbell, on the other hand, I've become a bigger fan of because he just rocks. In fact, he's the real reason the Evil Dead series is where it is. Without him, it's nothing.

I saw all three EDs on the screen during their original releases. I saw EDII in an Hispanic neighborhood. The guy behind me kept going, "oh, shiat, man!" in a Cheech Marin voice every time something scary happened onthe screen.

i call shenanigans. nothing scary happened in Evil Dead 2.

/look, i love all three movies, but ED 1 and 2 are pure garbage. Army of Darkness is great, tho.

Fine if you didn't like the movie, but how was Justin Long pontless? The character was integral to several important plot points. If anything is awful it's your criticism.
