(WESH Orlando) After allowing Marcus Jordan to play in an exhibition game with his dad's Nike Air Jordans, UCF is disappointed adidas terminated its 5-year sponsorship
So, they got Adidas to release them from the contract with very little penalty. Now Nike can be the hero and pick up the sponsorship, getting plenty of extra good publicity.
He must run the court slower than Kirstie Alley runs from the Ben & Jerry truck. His shooting accuracy must be shamed by Helen Keller's archery stats. I'm guessing he couldn't get a rebound if you dunked him in chocolate and money and sent him to a Hugh Grant movie marathon.
Yes, UCF is a Division I program, but this is Jordan's kid. I can't imagine North Carolina would have turned him down even if he knew less about handling balls than k.d. Lang.

I knew one of his sons quit playing basketball at U of Illinois and decided to focus only on his academics. If your father was one of the best players of all time, everything you do would be compared to him. Imagine if he did go to North Carolina and failed to make the team. The media would be all over his ass with headlines like "Air Apparently Not!" or some stupid shiat like that. Let them make their own decisions. If they fail, let them do it on their own, without any added pressure by being MJ's kid.
MBK:I knew one of his sons quit playing basketball at U of Illinois and decided to focus only on his academics.
I'm pretty sure he's back on the team now. Both of his kids are extremely athletic but don't have the same size as MJ. I think Jeffrey (UofI) is only about 6'1", probably about 180.
Marcus is just more of a defensive-minded player. Watched him in the exhibition game, he missed some FGs but he made up for it in defense. He'll be an okay player, he isn't his dad, but give the kid credit for what he does do well.
I don't see why Jordan's kid or UCF keeps getting blamed for this.
1. Marcus was told he would be able to wear the Nike brand shoes when he was recruited (clears him)
2. UCF was told by Adidas regional management that it would be fine to make an exception for Jordan's kid, and it wouldn't affect the deal. (clears UCF)
It only became a problem once the top execs in Adidas got wind of this. Jordan's kid didn't back down, UCF didn't back down, so they made the call to cancel the deal. This is totally on Adidas and I'm sure some of the management that dealt directly with UCF doesn't have their jobs anymore.

Well played, UCF.
This. Supposedly Nike is already involved in negotiations with the school.

BarrRepublican:Mr. Coffee Nerves: So Michael Jordan's son is playing at UCF?

As a UCF student, I find this whole thing laughable.
He wasn't even flaunting the Nike brand or anything. It seems like the shoes he was wearing must have been custom made, because they were ALL white, without so much as a black nike swoosh anywhere.
In fact, the only branding on or around his feet, were ADIDAS ankle guards, which clearly showed not only the adidas 3 stripes logo, but the adidas name as well.
Personally, I'm excited. Since adidas canceled the contract, hopefully it means our football uniforms get reworked. I hate them.

Yeah, I guess you can't make the exception because then EVERY kid whose dad has his own line of shoes and has had them for longer than most kids that are currently in college have been alive is going to want the exception.

You're forgetting the divorce and how Jordan had to hand over tons and tons of cash to his wife. She doesn't have a gambling problem.
Loaded is relative, but the Jordan family line won't be hurting for cash any time soon.
