Ooh, the Red Lion. That's actually pretty nice.

No no, agnostics don't know if they're going to make it, but they may or may not believe they will. This is a very subtle and important difference!

Occam's Chainsaw [TotalFark] 2009-11-06 05:23:31 AM
The atheists refuse to confirm nor deny the existence of said conference until irrefutable proof is provided and it stands up to peer scrutiny. The anti-theists keep saying that everyone in the whole world would be attending if they would just take off their God-shaped blinders and read some DAWKINS.

"You've all been to gatherings where you've been told to bow your heads and have a moment of silence. Well, here's your chance to fight back."

Then there will be a moment of bedlam when members hoot, holler and tap on glasses to make as much noise as possible.

Then they will all wet their collective pants at the sheer genius of it all.

How long until the first idiot comes in claiming that a gathering of people with similar viewpoints equates to a religion?

A gathering of people with similar viewpoints = a religion.

Pointless. I don't talk about my lack of belief in dragons, why would I bother with this?

/Now I've talked about my non-belief in dragons.
//And now I've lost The Game too.

*I mean the old-school Camaro, the one that doesn't suck

You don't know there are no dragons either. You believe there are no dragons. That is your religion.

Wait until I tell the Christians that they have an infinite number of religions besides Christianity.

How so? Have you checked everywhere for them? How can you be 100% certain that there aren't any? How about unicorns, fairies, or ghosts?

If you say my lack of belief in one thing is a religion, then why isn't my lack of belief in these other things a religion?

I went to the gym this morning. All those people in the same place working towards the same goal, paying a central authority from their own hard earned money, and encouraging each other to succeed in their ideology? Freaky stuff man. Reminded me of Koresh.

ne2d [TotalFark] 2009-11-06 09:07:49 AM

EvilEgg: If you say my lack of belief in one thing is a religion, then why isn't my lack of belief in these other things a religion?

Because religion, except for Scientology, is a belief in a deity, a creator, a God. Not dragons. And a lack of belief in something is not a religion. It's simply a lack of belief.

That was precisely the point I was making. My lack of belief in something (in this case god) is not a religion.

EatHam [TotalFark] 2009-11-06 09:21:17 AM
I don't know what your problem is, all of you. Atheism is definitely a religion, something which I contemplate frequently while engaging in my hobbies; specifically, not collecting various things.

The examples you list all have an outcome (except maybe the furries).

If you don't believe in God, what are you going to learn about the subject by meeting with a bunch of other people who don't believe in God.

Your celebrating your disbelief by making noises and banging on glasses which sounds to me like a ritual of some sort.

What about the Republican and Democratic conventions, are they religious rituals? What about Star Trek conventions? Book clubs?

There is nothing holy about a Star Trek convention.

This does even if it is the lack of religion.

Wait...are you saying the Republican party has nothing to do with religion? Star Trek nerds practically deify Gene Rodenberry and villify whoever was responsible for Enterprise. What if the book club is Bible study? What am I even talking about? I need coffee....
