(MSNBC) In down economy, Starbucks sees increase in visits, money spent. Mostly by people who go there all day because they haven't gotten around to telling their spouses they were laid off
I had to let a guy go last winter. He asked if it was OK if he used a training computer to polish his resume real quick. 4 hours later I finally had to ask him to leave. He just really didn't want to have to go tell his wife he was unemployed.
Like those laid-off sararimen in Japan who rode the trains all day. . . although some were just avoiding their families. It's way off from TFA, but you may be on to something, subby.
At my university, there's all these kids campaigning for lowered tuition fees, and yet there's always a lineup at starbucks. i think as long as people are able to afford starbucks every day, tuition costs can't be that high.
Unemployment just topped 10% today. This holiday season find a family to help out directly if you can afford it. Help a friend, neighbor or complete stranger... pay it forward.
If you're going to make a joke of my family name, could you at least put the damn apostrophe back in it so people will stop trying to make me a plural?

I was laid off last year and stopped going to Starbucks (& other coffee shops) when I realized I can brew my own coffee at home for 20 cents/cup. Unless I have the opportunity to network with other people for employment purposes, I have no reason to set foot in a coffee shop these days...
/ I'm pretty sure I have "Falling Down" on DVD...I'll have to watch it again...

You know, my husband and I aren't rich by any means, and this really rings true. We haven't been hit hard by this crisis, thankfully. And because of that, I feel we really need to pay it forward like you say.
I said to my husband, "Boy, am I glad we didn't buy a house...who knows what kind of financial shape we'd be in right now." Yeah renting sucks, but at least we can afford it and won't have to sell our walls for food.
I hope our good fortune continues and hope others find good fortune soon.

Falling Down is available for streaming on Netflix. It's well worth the watch.

Just wanted to pop in and add another endorsement for "Falling Down". Great movie, perfect for days when you're feeling stressed.
