I hate the Yankees, but that was sure a smart, heads-up and well executed play!

I'm bitter since I'll never get to sit in "The Throne" at the Metrodome, so I'm going to say he's juicing without any conceivable proof.

/Twins get into playoffs and, for the first time EVAR, LOSE to the YANKEES in the postseason... at the Metrodome...
//Coincidence? Or Puckett piassed off?
///Leaning towards Puckett...

No, it was a completely boneheaded one by the Phillies. Every other team that utilizes a shift knows exactly what to do during steal attempts.

And for that, his shoes go to the Hall. Stupid by the Phillies, stupid by the HOF.

Before they go to the HOF, can they be thrown at Theo Epstein for not trying to re-sign Johnny Damon? Sometimes Theo is too smart for his own good. Lets Damon go, but keeps Varitek. Now it looks like Jason Bay won't be a Sox much longer.

I was dumbfounded by that steal. Its not like the Phillies don't see that type of shift four times a game when Howard is up or anything.

The fark do the Twins have to do with anything?

So, you are saying that Utley or Victorino aren't as clever as Damon?

Uhhh, what?

Am I crazy or did the Yankees also beat the Twins in the playoffs at the Metrodome in 2003 and 2004?

Yeah, that extra base allowed him to, uh... walk home instead of run on the hit into the outfield? Wooooooo, game-changer

It allowed A-Rod to look fastball because they didn't think Lidge would risk bouncing his slider.

But that's okay, we know it's been a rough few days for baseball fans up your way.

HulkHands: Yeah, that extra base allowed him to, uh... walk home instead of run on the hit into the outfield? Wooooooo, game-changer

It caused Lidge to abandon his slider for fear of one getting away.

A-Rod got fastballs instead.

Big difference.

Bay to the Yankees. Your comments?

You must have had your tv on mute throughout the game. I believe the commentators explained it clearly at least two times what an impact that had.

I was at the game and knew exactly what it meant. I had to explain it to the Phillie fans around me too.

Stealing two bases in one play - so easy a caveman can do it.

SEPARATED AT BIRTH??

Too bad the Yankees have the clean-shaven policy (excluding the occasional trimmed 'stache). I wonder how long this fellow would've continued his Idiots-era appearance.

If you really want to get your panties in a knot about it, just consider it a make up for the headline on the World Series victory thread

Not at all. He's going to score on a single either way.

There is absolutely zero reason to change the way you pitch to a particular batter, or any batter when there's a man on third vs. a man on second. If Lidge was afraid of a slider getting away, both he and his catcher ought to be shipped out of town immediately. There was no change in approach.
